We haven't heard from the Juan Pierre or Mike Lowell fans in awhile either, but you don't see any threads about that.

I don't hate him, just think there are better options.

I'll happily be wrong if he does well.

There, feel all better now?

bingo

Its not just his numbers even when he doesn't get an AB he has an effect on the game. Teams have "respected" him and when Jack subs him in teams will change their pitchers letting Jack get the righty hitter-lefty pitcher matchup he really wanted. Its happened a couple of times this year. One reason we needed a lefty on the bench.

Good perspective...I never thought of it like that.

PhishPhan, that's happened twice. Doesn't the lack of any defensive value negate that?

Well when that happens he doesn't stay in the game anyway. And usually he PHs for the pitcher so he normally doesn't need to fill a defensive spot.

If need be he can play LF, or one of the IF corners. But we are lucky to have a few pieces that play a number of defensive spots. And its not like Jack really ever uses defensive replacements anyway. I mean I think putting Steve in for Delgado in the 9th once in a while wouldn't kill anyone.

Harris can be a defensive liability because we have Aguila, Conine, Easley who can play defense quite well. If you got 'em smoke 'em.

And Lenny has never made an error while in a Marlins' uniform, so I don't know what your problem is with his defense. BTW, he has played 82 innings in the field at an assortment of positions as a Marlin so far.

He plays LF or the corner infield as well as a back-up catcher with bad knees does. His two step-and-dive on a fly ball web gem is still vividly clear in my memory.

You're right, with Jack's management style this year, it's not necessary for Lenny to play defense. But it's something you want from each of your bench players. It's arguable that the lack of versatlity has made Jack unwilling to use the bench. After all, Jack was very willing to give spot-starts to bench players last year. Maybe... Easley has needed to stay on the bench in case an infielder needs to go out, Treanor if LoDuca goes down. Conine, Aguila and Harris have been the only movable pieces and 2 of them have appeared in many games and the other is clearly on the low end of the totem pole.

Jack seems to be very old school. Now I am not quite as old as him, but I think back in the day using defensive replacements and the sort was not the norm. I mean looking around the league today you see that stuff on a normal basis, just not with the Fish. I think it may be more Jack is a throwback rather than him not trusting the bench.

Either way, Harris is there just for his left handed bat and that is fine with me. He is usually the first off the bench to PH anyway. Its not like Jack burns through 1 or 2 guys before getting to Harris anyway, putting him in a position he might need to use Harris in the field. I mean you are only going to pinch hit 1-2, 3 at the most times in a 9 inning game that you are competitive in. If a game goes 15+ innings, then everything is thrown out the window anyway.

Mikey Lowell fan here, but won't create a whole thread over it. Proudly supporting my opinions on Lowell though, that he did need this time off, and hope to see him back soon swinging that bat. :thumbup

 :lol

I think if Lenny can keep this up all season he is going to be a huge part of this team, because if he can come up to the plate in the later innings and come through with a hit it can really get some rallys going.

I still dislike Lenny, does this make you happy. He weakens the bench options thats for sure. But I'll give him some respect for what he's done so far and I hope he gets PH #200 real soon and retires immediately after that game.

Just glad to see Lenny get off to a much better start this year. Clearly, I'm not a big fan as I believe there are better options in AAA. But nonetheless, still hopes he does well when he's in there.

Anyone got a video of when Lenny was thrown out at first and he tripped over the bag and did a flip? :lol

That will never happen. I highly doubt he is on the roster only to get 200 pinch hits.

So he has what? 2 more to go? If he keeps hitting as well as he is now, he'll remain on the roster.

That was yet another great hit last night by the youngster Lenny Harris. Solidly to the opposite field to raise his average to .412. And the way he motored into second. Wow!

He's got quite a career ahead of him as a pinch-hitter if he keeps this up. :p

You'll be hearing from us soon. :mischief

I'm just as happy as I can be that he is making many of us (including me) eat crow. Sure tastes good. Pass the salt please. :D
