First off, I'm surprise Beinfest was able to twist Loria arm on this one. The Drew deal is one that doesn't come along very often. This deal "IF" it happens is not just for now but the future(which I like alot). The rumors is more likely to be for prospects than the reported Castillo/V Nunez(looks like he was the pitcher being thrown around for salary reasons). Which I agree totally. The prospects being thrown around are RHP Don Levinski, RHP Jason Grilli, RHP Justin Wayne and OF Abe Nunez. IMO this is the deal that is on the table that is being consider by the Marlins brass. The reason the Castillo deal doesn't work for both sides is the Marlins don't want to mess with this team everyday line-up and the Cards really need starting pitching bad and the Marlins are NOT give-up Penny are any of there starters for Drew. Do I think this deal is going down before Thursday? it's 50/50 but really its in Pittsburgh court

*Donnie has cross that Bridge?

Double-A Carolina slipped by Jacksonville, 2-1, as 3B Josh Willingham cracked his 4th homer and LHP Frank Gracesqui struckout 4 batters in 1.2 innings of relief to earn his first win of the season. Willingham just returned to the Carolina line-up after being out since June 8th due to knee surgery. He has hit 4 homers in 6 games with Carolina and is hitting .500 overall. The 24-year-old continues to play all over the field, playing 3B, C, 1B, and LF. The Marlins are hoping he can become a catcher but Willingham may end up being a jack-of-all-trades slugger. He can mash, that's for sure. He's very underrated. Gracesqui, 23, has now struckout 55 batters in 44 innings this season and he projects to be a power lefty in the bullpen. A potential set-up man. RHP Donnie Bridges started the game for Carolina and he once again turned in a strong effort, surrendering one run and 3 hits in 6 innings, walking 3 and fanning 4. Bridges continues to show he's a prospect again. He currently ranks 6th in the SL in ERA (2.76) and has only allowed 65 hits in 104.1 innings this season. The 24-year-old also hits up a storm. He's hitting .400 and slugging .600. That's in 40 at-bats, not 10. So is Bridges the next Jason Jennings?

*Lincoln gets the call to Jupiter and gets rocked

1B Jason Stokes clubbed his 14th homer of the season in High-A Jupiter's 5-3 home loss to Dunedin. Stokes continues to lead the FSL in RBIs with 75. RHP Lincoln Holdzkom was the losing pitcher in his first game with Jupiter as he would allow 3 runs -- 2 earned -- and 3 hits in one inning of relief. He walked two and fanned one. Holdzkom was promoted from Low-A Greensboro where he posted a 2.84 ERA in 43 games and struckout 74 batters in 57 innings while surrendering just 36 hits. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound right-hander is one of the better power reliever prospects in the minors.

*Marlins second round pick gets hammer

SS-A Jamestown and Mahoning Valley shared their lemonade and a doubleheader on Monday. Jamestown would win game one, 3-1, as SS Lee Mitchell went 2-for-3 with an RBI. C Ryan Garko was 2-for-3 with solo shot (3) for the Valley. Mahoning Valley would win game two, 7-1, as SS Anthony Lunetta went 3-for-4 with a double, a bomb (3), and 4 ribs. RHP Logan Kensing was the starting and losing pitcher for Jamestown in game two. Kensing gave up 4 runs -- 3 earned -- and 9 hits in just 4.1 innings. The Marlins' 2nd round pick in this year's draft has been struggling, posting a 4.88 ERA in 6 games. He's allowed 32 hits in 24 innings and has fanned just 13.

Young fish is improving..

? Marlins low Class A righthander Yorman Bazardo was consistently clocked between 92-94 mph, topping out at 95-96 mph on Friday night, though he was outdueled by Phillies southpaw Cole Hamels. Bazardo keeps his fastball down in the zone effectively, though he doesn't generate a lot of movement on the pitch. Many of the Lakewood hitters were able to get good swings and make solid contact against his best fastballs, and he's only fanned 53 in 85 innings. Bazardo occasionally gets around his curveball causing it to lack bite, but the pitch is much improved this year. His changeup is also an effective weapon. Bazardo allowed one unearned run, while striking out six in six innings. He gave up four hits and has surrendered a .239 average.

A match up of future NL East rivals

? Marlins Double-A righthander Trevor Hutchinson will come off the DL and start against Braves prospect Adam Wainwright on Thursday. Hutchinson missed two starts due to an infection from a bee sting.

Has Allison pitched yet? He reported last week didn't he? just curious

I would do this trade in a heartbeat. None of these player are top-notch prospects except perhaps Levinski, but he's at best our third best pitcher on the farm behind Bautista and Hutchinson. To get Drew without giving up Stokes, Bautista, Willingham, or Hutchinson would be a steal.

cab's 1for1

I agree 100%. If we don't have to give up Castillo, then there isn't a huge risk in this deal. Even though I love the way Cabs is playing Drew could be our LF of the future and Cabs can move to 1b or RF next year. Also Drew has playoff experience and is the big Left handed bat we need so he can help us now.

Agree 100%...Levinski is a top 100 prospect, but to get Drew? Go for it.

How many years does Drew have on his contract?

Hey if we get Drew, what do you guys think of having like a rotation of Cabrera, Drew and Encarnacion at Left and Right Field. They would all get playing time and we wouldn't have to send Cabrera's dangerous bat down.

I agree with you Downrodeo, that getting Drew without dealing one of our front line prospects is a steal. Drew has all-star ability, and is damn near a perfect fit for our field. I also think this guy has been suffocated under La Russa - he is going to blow up if he comes here. Besides, we can afford to deal Levinski, eventhough I like him a lot, because of Hutch and Bautista, even some of the lower level pitchers are very good and we are deep in pitching. I gave BEinfest and the FO an A+ before the season, if they pull off this deal for Drew, we may have to make up an entirely new grade for them...

RHP Don Levinski is the only prospect that I really would like to keep but if Marlins FO is thnking to sign J.D to a long term than go ahead.

I hope i wake up and Drew is a Marlin...

That's all I have to say...

i wish !! or i wake up and Rondell is a marlin cuz i know rondell will help us alot in the long run

Well, if anything it's not because I do't believe in Cabs, but because we have to stay with tha pack, meaning the D-Backs get Mondesi, we get Drew.

I hope i wake up and Drew is a Marlin...

That's all I have to say...

i wish !! or i wake up and Rondell is a marlin cuz i know rondell will help us alot in the long run I wouldn't mind Rondell or Sanders or Drew.

I would just rather have Drew than anyone.

*NOTE: Sanders and White both homered tonight, playing each other.
