Posted June 7, 200519 yr Link Bump sent down, Perisho designated for assignment. About time. I don't know if Bentz and De Los Santos are the answer, but I know that Bump and Perisho weren't.
June 7, 200519 yr What the f*** is the FO thinking? Riedling and Smith have been twice as bad as Bump.
June 7, 200519 yr What the f*** is the FO thinking? Riedling and Smith have been twice as bad as Bump. 799346 First the draft and now this... :confused
June 7, 200519 yr Looks like Bump is being punished for throwing that DP ball away. 799348 I agree. And I don't like this at all Bump should be with the club and Travis sent down.
June 7, 200519 yr Could it be Bump lost out to Smith in the Big Club because Smith was a starter with Atlanta before and Bump starting has not been regular?
June 7, 200519 yr Smith has only had 2 "bad" games in which he has allowed more than 1 run. http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...4000&statType=2
June 7, 200519 yr Could it be Bump lost out to Smith in the Big Club because Smith was a starter with Atlanta before and Bump starting has not been regular? 799367 Maybe. Gosh knows Reidling can't get the job done.
June 7, 200519 yr Another thing I also think about is allowing the Marlins to start Bump at AAA, keep an extra man in the bullpen, then recalling Bump in case they need a starter.
June 7, 200519 yr OK, this is BS... Bump has been doing a bad job lately, but he was doing great since the start of the season. Perisho, even though I hate the guy, had nice numbers. It is not fair to get rid of guys in the bullpen because our bats are struggling. If that's the case, then Mike Lowell and Paul Lo Duca should also be designated for assignment... :thumbdown
June 7, 200519 yr Cant wait to see Bentz pitch. 799374 yup, I think these moves are being made to set up future scenarios for July and August. Whether that be trades, callups, or signings.
June 7, 200519 yr Perisho, even though I hate the guy, had nice numbers. 799373 No he didnt, he had the most decieving numbers in baseball ERA and record wise. His walks to IP ratio was horrendous.
June 7, 200519 yr bump>smith hopefully nate takes a few days or weeks in AAA and straightens out a bit and becomes as good as i know he can be bentz was pitching well in the minors, and de los santos was rather solid with milwaukee and should be able to pitch long relief

Looks like the club called off the big move for a few more weeks and needed some scapegoats to look seem they are working on the problem. Even the best of bullpens are a believable scapegoat to fans.
June 7, 200519 yr RotoWorld's Take Matt Perisho - R - Marlins Marlins designated LHP Matt Perisho for assignment. Perisho had a 1.93 ERA, but he wasn't of much use as a specialist with lefties hitting .346 against him. Righties were at .130. Since he did just fine against lefties last year, there's a good chance he'll be claimed on waivers. Jun. 7 - 5:57 pm et Nate Bump - R - Marlins Marlins optioned RHP Nate Bump to Triple-A Albuquerque. If not for Ismael Valdez's injury, the Marlins would have dumped Bump despite a great spring. Now they're demoting him even though he has a 3.51 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. Last year, he had a 3.57 ERA in 68 innings as a reliever. He hasn't been one of the Marlins' problems, and he deserves better treatment. Jun. 7 - 5:55 pm et Chad Bentz - R - Marlins Marlins purchased the contract of LHP Chad Bentz from Triple-A Albuquerque. Bentz, who had a 5.86 ERA in 27 2/3 innings for the Expos last season, had allowed one run in 11 innings since moving up to Albuquerque. At best, he'll be an adequate lefty specialist. Jun. 7 - 5:52 pm et Valerio De Los Santos - R - Marlins Marlins purchased the contract of LHP Valerio De Los Santos from Single-A Jupiter. Six days after he makes his season debut? This looks like a terrible idea. De Los Santos had missed a year due to his latest shoulder problem, and he hasn't looked useful since the first half of 2003. Little should be expected. June 7, 200519 yr YYYEESSS!!!!! BUMP IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (even if he is still in AAA) YESSSS!!!! EDIT: I cant wait to see how the new guys perform.. lets hope we can see one step up!
June 7, 200519 yr Glad to see Perisho sent down. But, I'm not too crazy about replacing Bump with Valerio De Los Santos.
June 7, 200519 yr Just thinking... it's very odd that Perisho got sent down now when a second southpaw in the pen could allow Matt to face more righties. :lol
June 7, 200519 yr Glad to see Perisho sent down. But, I'm not too crazy about replacing Bump with Valerio De Los Santos. 799392 Same here. BTW, Perisho didn't get sent down, he is out. Its good to see Jack and the FO showing that we expect performance and no screwups.
June 7, 200519 yr someone should give butchy an apology butchy :notworthy 799364 Thanks Teal - I was starting to doubt what I heard also. I saw De Los Santos pitch 3 times in Jupiter. He didn't impress. He had one good inning where he struck out 2 and even in that inning the "A" ball players he faced swung at bad pitches
