September 2, 200521 yr Author I don't think anyone is saying they don't want Hermida in there. We need a spark. But most people aren't surprised McKeon isn't starting him. 926621 I agree....even though Lowell is a great guy- fans might need to booo Lowell so that McKeon will understand that we want Hermida. If Lowell were in Philly, New York, St Louis...any big baseball city, then he'd be booed to death by now.

September 2, 200521 yr If Lowell were in Philly, New York, St Louis...any big baseball city, then he'd be booed to death by now. 926623 Also, the media would be getting all over McKeon for keeping him in the lineup, because let's face it, Lowell's struggles haven't been widely publicized around the nation.

You think the fans make the lineup? You continue to top yourself with comments like this.... :banghead

This board is out of control, I'm leaving here. 926633 Why is this board out of control? DO you like to face facts or no? 1) Scouts say that Mike Lowell is done. 2) Mike Lowell costs a lot of money. 3) Mike Lowell is hitting .230 with only 6 HR (Easley has 9 and Hermida is on the bench). Wake up man....out of control? We are trying to make the playoffs...I love Lowell but he needs to be on the bench right now to HELP US.

The simple facts are that if Lowell continues to struggle and fans arent happy- then McKeon won't want Lowell to get anymore down on himself and MIGHT bench him. Either way, I think if Lowell sucks tonight then Hermida starts tomorrow.
September 3, 200521 yr Well Lowell's flashed the glove as usual tonight and he did pick up an RBI on a sac fly so he did an ok job in this game. Overall though yeah, I don't see him being in the lineup much longer. I think we'll see Jack make a switch when Mr. Opportunity knocks and someone comes on in as he likes to say. Conine/Hermida platoon if/when that switch is made please. 9er deserves to play still.
September 3, 200521 yr lowell will play for defense only. although cabs has shown some good glove, he is a below average 3b NOW. we have seen what errors do for this team especially when we dont score runs. lowell will play most of time at 3b. mark it down. right or wrong.

No doubt we'd have made the playoffs with OMGNUNEZ as a starting outfielder last season. Or for that matter, celebrating our World Series title with Josh Beckett held out of starting Game 6 in the Bronx. :plain
September 3, 200521 yr lowell will play for defense only. It'd be nice if there was a DF (designated fielder) for times like these...

I am in no way a ML hater since Ive supported him through the season. Hermida in no way a move just based on the concept of a new face or "OMG HERMIDA" fans. The guy can play the game. I would like to watch him do it sooner than later on the fact that we cant keep depending on our pitching like we have 99.6% of the year.

September 3, 200521 yr lowell will play for defense only. although cabs has shown some good glove, he is a below average 3b NOW. 927367 What gives you that idea? Miggy's only committed 2 errors in 42 career games at 3rd base. It's not like Lowell has tremendous range at 3rd base either. And both Conine and Hermida are upgrades to Miguel defensively, so there would be little drop off defensively. And a huge upgrade offensively.

I've honestly never seen Hermida play outside of the one AB 2 nights ago, so I'm not really in a position to make any judgments. I was saying this afternoon that Jeremy should start tonight, if only because Mikey was 0 for 9 career against Zambrano. But I mean, you've hung around the board. We'd have trotted out 120 different lineups by now if Jack listened to the majority of fans. That's not gonna work.

September 3, 200521 yr That RBI was garbage, Lowell was simply the beneficiary of batting with the bases loaded and having a struggling Zambrano forced to throw a pipe shot. He didn't hit any ball exceptionally well, and he really didn't show me any signs of life. Yes, he snagged that Castro liner, but he let a ball get through that if Cabrera were in, I think everyone here would be saying "oh, Lowell would get that." Play Hermida. Play Conine. I don't care, just get Lowell out of the lineup. Quite frankly, we're lucky to have won this game tonight because we sure didn't take advantage of a pitcher struggling to the extent Zambrano was.

September 3, 200521 yr I'd really like to see what McKeon's explanation is for keeping Mike Lowell in the lineup all this year.? He's really been given a free pass by the media on this.? I don't think he can still say, now that we're in September, that he still thinks, "Mike's gonna come out of it."? He's had 5 months to come out of his slump and it hasn't happened, time to have some balls and get him out of the lineup. 926608 As I'm sure you're aware, but in case others aren't. The media is not going to question one of their best sources about a fan favorite, who also happens to be very open with the press, receiving playing time. That would be shooting themselves in the foot. Sports journalists have little at stake whether the team wins or loses or its employees are held accountable. They're in the business of selling stories and have found a way to do so without broaching that topic and compromising their sources. It's a shame too, because there's few more interesting stories than Lowell being trotted out there every day.

But, wouldn't doing something to anger the not so anonymous "anonymous" source lead to more bile that the papers would be more than happy to peddle?
