Luis Info and Jones Info

The Cardinals have a hole at second base and could talk to the Marlins about 2B Luis Castillo.

Marlins free agent closer Todd Jones appreciates that GM Admin Beinfest told his agent that ''he didn't want to make an offer until he was done [with] what he had to do.'' (Translation: trading more expensive veterans.) ''He didn't want to mislead an older player. For that, I'm thankful.'' Jones said it ''looks like'' Atlanta, St. Louis, Cleveland, Cincinnati or the Yankees will be his next team. ``I'd still listen to the Marlins. After all, they gave me a shot and somebody has to save Dontrelle [Willis'] wins.''

Some JP news also:

The Cubs are also considered the front-runner for Florida center fielder Juan Pierre if the Marlins shop him at the winter meetings, as expected, and they'll also pursue a right fielder, likely through a trade. The Cubs have mild interest in free-agent outfielder Preston Wilson, whom they pursued at the trading deadline before acquiring and dumping Matt Lawton.

todd jones is one cool m'fer

Thanks for blowing Dontrelle's 23rd.

I can't blame Jones for leaving. There's just no way the Marlins will match the other offers I'm sure he's getting.

Looks like the Winter Meetings will probably be where we see some more trades... I hope they can hang on to Castillo and P-Lo... Pierre and Villone are probably gone... Will be interesting to see if anything develops from the Gathright/Hall rumors.

Louie to the Cardinals for Yadier Molina!!!

And then what do we do with Lo Duca? Trade him for a second base prospect or a young second baseman?

Hey, you cant blame that one entirely on him.

Sorry that the guy's HUMAN!

and what about the other wins he saved for Train...?

Jones is a classy dude!

Works for me :thumbup

I've done alot of soul-searching regarding trading LoDuca, and obviously I was early to the dance regarding Casillo. We're eight miles out on a ten mile trip and you might as well dump their $25 million in salary over the next two years, and move on.

As for Molina, in a freakin' heartbeat.

There are only two catchers I would trade for considering what looks like the Marlins player personnel going forward. Dioner Navarro and Yadier Molina. Chris Snyder, no thanks.

I really don't care what others think on this and I'm not going to debate it, but Molina and Navarro are the best two young signal-callers in the game, warts and all (because neither is perfect yet and both need more MLB experience), but both have great careers ahead of them. Getting one of them would be fantastic for the franchise.

I wouldn't trade Castillo to St Louis without Molina being invloved or trade LoDuca without one of the two coming back to us.

Good call. :thumbup

Thanks for blowing Dontrelle's 23rd. sh*t happens.

And thanks for saving all the rest of the games you saved for D-Train! Your truely a class guy and I will still look forward to reading your articles in Sporting News.

The Cardinals wouldn't do Yadier Molina for Luis Castillo straight up. We'd also have to include a prospect. I wonder what kind of prospect they'd go for?

But, I just checked www.benmaller.com, and there is no mention of the Cardinals talking to the Marlins about Luis Castillo. :plain

Ok, guys....please understand something.

LUIS CASTILLO isn't going anywhere.

The Red Sox are interested in Easley as a 2B.

The Red Sox could be looking at Damion Easley as a potential second baseman, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports.

Did we miss the hiring of Jim Beattie as GM? Easley isn't a bad utilityman, but even ignoring Dustin Pedroia, he'd be a weaker choice than Alex Cora as a second baseman against right-handers. Nov. 30 - 3:18 am et

You have an inside source? Im not believing anything until I see it. How can you be so sure?

Dear god.. YADIER MOLINA is going NOWHERE.. But I do think the Cardinals will inquire about Luis.. That's pretty obvious..

Of course the Cards are not trading Molina but who do the cardinals have in their farm system to trade?

Not much, not much at all.. Really just Anthony Reyes and I dont even think he's going anywhere (Unless the Bobby Abreu deal is true).. Adam Wainwright, hah..

I agree.

Yeah, I don't think the Cardinals are a good fit in terms of a trading partner for us. I don't think it'll get done and if it does, it probably won't turn out well for us.

What interests me is that there seems to be absolutely zero talk about anyone signing free agent Alex Gonzalez.

Who?

:lol very nice

Who?

The guy who's bat generated one of the single greatest moments in franchise history and for that should never be forgotten. :thumbup

I've noticed that as well. It could turn out good for the fish if Alex decides to take a 1 year deal and to wait on the market next year. It would be good to give Ramirez one more year in the minors.

Potential SS FAs after the 2006 season are:

Tomas Perez (club option)

Kazuo Matsui (can opt for either free agency or arb.)

Craig Counsell

Julio Lugo

Chris Gomez

If Alex could have an improved year at the plate(regain his power from previous years) he'd certainly increase his value in 2006.

Luis Castillo, just 30 years of age, will play his 11th season with the Marlins in '06. Book it.
