I happen to think Willingham gets the nod, especially with Girardi working with him for th enext few months. Others think Olivo gets the nod based solely on the fact he is superior defensively. :mischief
January 17, 200620 yr I think it's absolutely too early to tell since there are so many factors that could play themselves out before opening day, but that said I voted for Olivo without malice towards Willingham.

I'd prefer to see Willingham since that kind of offensive production from a catcher is downright scary, and he's going to need a full season behind the dish to fully get his feet wet, 2006 is the best and only chance he has to be made into a catcher.

January 17, 200620 yr I say you load up on your defensive studs in the starting lineup to help the young pitching, ala 2003. With the exception of 1B (Jacobs) and LF (Willingham), the line up of Olivo (C ), Pokey/Amezega (2B), Hanley (SS), Cabrera (3B), Aguila/Reed (CF), Hermida (RF)... is an outstanding defensive lineup, with speed, which I think would give them the best shot to win.
January 17, 200620 yr When it comes to playing time, I dont think the question is having either Willingham or Olivo. I really believe Willingham is gonna play almost every day and it will probably be in left field. Had Olivo not been signed I think Willingham wouldve been the catcher by default since Girardi was going to work with him on that. I think the question is would you rather have Olivo © & Willingham (LF) or Willingham © /Aguila - Veteran Leftfielder (LF). Personally, ill take Olivo at C and Willy in LF. And I dont mean to knock Aguila but Id rather have the defensive downgrade at LF than at C.
