March 29, 200620 yr Beinfestball strikes again. Can anyone give me a reasonable argument why Olsen was demoted? He was pitching on regular rotation rest and going on schedule with the other guys who had jobs (Willis, Mitre, Moehler, Vargas). By doing this now, it puts Johnson and Nolasco on irregular rest for that 5 spot. Whoever it may be. Only reasoning I can see is that whole "not needing the 5th starter till April 15th or whenever" but hadn't Girardi coyly mentioned using as many as six starters...so I doubt they want to throw the young arms more than necessary. I don't get it, and frankly, I never will as long as Beinfest is here.
March 29, 200620 yr Hard to imagine Harris finding another team to hook on with. Hopefully Cepicky will be back up soon [to stay].
March 29, 200620 yr Source everyone has been looking for JUPITER, Fla. ? (AP) ? Lenny Harris, the career leader in pinch hits, was released from the Florida Marlins on Wednesday after being told he would not make the team. Reliever Kerry Ligtenberg also was released. The Marlins also reassigned outfielder Matt Cepicky and infielder Mike Kinkade to Triple-A Albuquerque and optioned left-hander Scott Olsen to Albuquerque. Olsen will begin the season in the minors because of early-season offdays but is scheduled to join the rotation and make his season debut April 15. Olsen had been battling with right-hander Josh Johnson for the fifth starting spot. Johnson has made the team in the bullpen. Harris, 41, has 212 career pinch hits, 62 more than second-place Manny Mota. He set franchise records last year with 19 pinch hits and 13 pinch-hit RBIs. Last year, Harris batted .314 with one homer and 13 RBIs. makes sense then with Olsen. They want to keep the other 4 on regular rest and wont really need a 5 starter until the 15th. Easy decision, give Olsen a couple of starts and we will be fine. Cool.

March 29, 200620 yr I still think it's to make sure his elbow problems from last year are a non factor, and it will be hard to really judge coming out of the pen @ the big level. Now, in two months @ AAA, where he will compile what...8, 9, or 10 starts, and see if there really is no hangover.
March 29, 200620 yr as for harris, should have been gone years ago...all he did is take up some young guys spot..... kerry, he sucks see ya later,go lose some games for someone else... Olsen was a surprise,i thought he made the team for sure.... Kerry doesnt suck and he was pitching pretty well this spring. He's also has underarm hair and is older than 20 years old.......sad to see him go.
March 29, 200620 yr Man, it's sad to see Lenny go, i'll always remember the game where he annihilated Gagne.
March 29, 200620 yr Marlins release career pinch hits leader March 29, 2006 JUPITER, Fla. March 29, 200620 yr As far as I can tell that puts us down to 26 players: P (13): Baxter, Borowski, Herges, Johnson, Martinez, Messenger, Mitre, Moehler, Nolasco, Resop, Vargas, Wellemeyer, Willis C (3): Olivo, Treanor, Willingham IF (6): Amaezega, Cabrera, Helms, Jacobs, Ramirez, Uggla OF (4): Abercrombie, Aguila, Hermida, Reed I'd imagine Baxter and Messenger are finalists for that week and a half assignment in the majors until Olsen gets back. Reed, Helms or Olivo/Treanor on the other side after the expected trade or waiver pickup.
March 29, 200620 yr I thought they outrighted Baxter weeks ago? they did. so it looks like that's our team minus baxter.
March 29, 200620 yr Harris would have been good as a veteran prescence to mentor/yell at the young players.
March 29, 200620 yr :o :o :o :o :o Wow, that is one statement filled with a lot of inconceivable remarks!!!!!!! :o :o :o :o

March 29, 200620 yr Well knowing that Olsen will be with the team the following week this moves makes a little bit more sense... Why have him on the Roster if hes not going to start? Might as well get him a few spot starts in AAA so he can be ready for a start in the Pros...
March 29, 200620 yr Ok, ok now we are assuming too much. Nobody knows what's going to happen with Olsen, so nothing makes sense right now.
March 29, 200620 yr Agreed with rferry concerning Cepicky. He could find himself on the roster at some point if Reggie or Aguila struggle mightily...unless an OFer is acquired through trade.
March 29, 200620 yr Which brings up another good point...If Gathright or Church is acquired, who from our current batch of OF gets sent down? Likely Aguila or Abercrombie, right.
March 29, 200620 yr Which brings up another good point...If Gathright or Church is acquired, who from our current batch of OF gets sent down? Likely Aguila or Abercrombie, right. or Reed..
March 29, 200620 yr If an outfielder is acquired, a catcher has as much if not more chance of being sent down than an outfielder
March 29, 200620 yr If an outfielder is acquired, a catcher has as much if not more chance of being sent down than an outfielder This assumes we carry 3 catchers...
March 29, 200620 yr Well, atleast I get to listen to Olsen pitch on the radio. He won't be down here too long.
