Ramp
versus --- Riding a two-game losing streak, the Marlins turn to their ace in hopes of rebounding on Saturday. Dontrelle Willis, who has enjoyed great success in his young career against the Mets, makes his second start of the season. Florida has a quick turnaround, playing in the afternoon after dropping a 9-3 decision on Friday night. When Willis takes the mound at Shea Stadium, however, the Marlins usually enjoy pretty good results. Florida is 5-0 in games the D-Train has started in New York. Willis also is 8-1 with a 1.85 ERA in his career against the Mets. The Mets are going with their Opening Day starter, Tom Glavine. The left-hander defeated the Nationals in his first start, giving up one run in six innings. Glavine last beat the Marlins on April 20, 2003. The Marlins have dropped two straight, but have a chance to even the weekend series with their National League East rival. On Opening Day, Willis threw five shutout innings but wasn't involved in the decision at Houston. An encouraging sign for the Marlins is the success of the top of the order, led by leadoff hitter Hanley Ramirez and No. 2 hitter Jeremy Hermida. Ramirez raised his average to .471 with two hits Friday, while Hermida is batting .308, along with drawing five of the Marlins' 11 walks. Pitching matchup FLA: LHP Dontrelle Willis (0-0, 0.00 ERA) A high pitch count caused the D-Train to exit after five innings in the season opener at Houston. Willis threw 107 pitches in five scoreless innings, and he allowed just one hit. For his career, Willis is 8-0 in April. NYM: LHP Tom Glavine (1-0, 1.50 ERA) Glavine gained his 276th career victory on Opening Day, beating the Nationals. Since 2003, the veteran left-hander has had his struggles with the Marlins, going 1-6 in 11 starts against them. For his career, Glavine is 15-18 with a 3.84 ERA vs. Florida. Players to watch David Wright belted a home run and drove in three runs Friday night, giving him 18 RBIs and four home runs against Marlins pitching for his career. First baseman Mike Jacobs was traded to the Marlins in the Carlos Delgado deal, and he hasn't lost his power stroke. After hitting 11 home runs in 100 at-bats for the Mets last season, Jacobs is up to his old tricks, having hit two in 16 at-bats this season. One of them came against Steve Trachsel on Friday night.
