April 13, 200620 yr I hate these woulda, coulda, shoulda polls but it sucked me in and yeah I voted for option 1.
April 13, 200620 yr Deal 1, as Psomas could end up being a steal down the road IMO...I mean just based on the fact that he was a throw in.
April 13, 200620 yr I'd do Milledge straight up, assuming all the salary was eaten by the Mets was constant. But I bet the Mets would have thrown in Psomas anyways. The Marlins would have gotten a 2nd player of some sorts. Not a top one though. Milledge is going to be awesome, and they could have found stopgaps at 1B (even Willingham) until someone out of Stokes, Harvey, McCann, and Restko, emerge in 1-2 years to play one of the corner spots. We have nothing in CF, and will have to overpay in free agency or in trade to get one. Beinfest messed up big time, but it is hard to criticize because situationally, I'm still under the impression he believed he could get Felix Pie for Pierre, so maybe he ignored Milledge on purpose. Hindsight is 20/20, but right now, it's obvious the correct move was Milledge. Not getting a CF is the glaring negative of the offseason overhaul.
April 14, 200620 yr Would you trade Mike Jacobs, Yusmeiro Petit, and Grant Psomas for Lastings Milledge? I'm glad we kept Thrilledge, but I'd rather have option #1.
April 14, 200620 yr I just don't see how you can trade a top player for a single prospect who's not even done anything yet. Jacobs isn't hitting too bad, although Stokes might have been able to play his position as well there was no guarantee he could even play this year. Petit is one of the more intriguing pitching prospects and we may need him more than you think. Not everybody is sold on Millidge, and our #2 overall rated prospect hasn't exactly lit up the field so far. Can you imagine what you guys would be thinking if Millidge was playing horrible and we had traded Delgado straight up?
April 14, 200620 yr For the life of me, I still can't comprehend why people don't realize that the money sent to the Mets would have been drastically different in the two scenarios. To get Milledge, we would have been sending THREE TIMES as much money to the Mets as we did...no prospect in baseball is worth that...no one. Jacobs will be a force, Petit will be good and allow us to trade other arms for talent elsewhere (although with Beinfestball you never know). The only trade I wish we had a do-over or a don't do at all was the Castillo trade, we got taken to the woodshed on that one.

April 14, 200620 yr Speaking of Bowyer, I happen to notice he has yet to pitch for the Isotopes. Anyone know why not? Injured? Curious.
April 14, 200620 yr I heard he was injured. Dont take my word for it though it could have been another pitcher.

He might have been hurt but pushing it anyway because he knew he had a shot to make the team.
April 14, 200620 yr I'd take option one, but there is no doubt that AS OF RIGHT NOW (8 games into the season), the better trade would have been for Milledge. He'd be starting at CF, probably batting out of the 6th spot (or the 2nd spot), and Stokes would be starting at 1B. It's hard to argue that Milledge/Stokes is LESS THAN Jacobs/Reed/Abercrombie/Aguila. And, as CF is clearly the most GLARING black hole in our lineup, it is hard to argue that acquiring Milledge would have made the team worse off, particularly when you have an adequate 1B in the minors (and Helms off the bench). Whenever I saw Milledge during Spring Training, he was getting hits and making plays all over the field. However, so was Abercrombie, so you can only take that so far. Also, Stokes seemed to have a good spring, and as of right now, his numbers are down in the minors. So, it is hard to make a case that he is anyone close to where Jacobs is right now. Nevertheless, you cannot understate the money factors involved, or ignore the fact that Petit could be a force in our rotation no later than this year. And, if the stars align, who knows what Psomas can bring to the table. If Petit end up in the rotation, and performing, we got a GREAT deal from the Mets, and I don't think you can argue that the Milledge deal is better. It all depends on Petit (quite obviously), and I think he'll pan out fine.
April 14, 200620 yr Doesn't he have child support payments or something like that? I dont know.. but why would that matter?
April 14, 200620 yr I don't think Milledge was ever an option. I think we had the choice of any player we wanted BUT Milledge. Shame though, It would be nice to have him (but at the same time, we've got Willy and Hermida)
April 15, 200620 yr We have already gone over this before! The Mets offered Milledge but the Marlins weren't interested BTW I don't see Milledge on the Mets roster
