San Antonio Deadline Countdown

Featured Replies

with Indy getting their stadium, that moves them off of the list. Which leaves just N.O. Bills, Jags, Vikes. Personally I dont see the Vikings moving because of all of that tradition there. I believe the twin cities can keep them filled up and I doubt the NFL would allow them to move.

The jags I think will have good numbers this year with fans at the games and all, but we shall see. They share the TV market with the Fins and Tampa which isnt very good to do. which leaves the Bills and N.O. one for LA and one for SA perhaps.

Isn't Jacksonville a tad small for pro football?

Smallest market in the NFL (#50 I believe). It was awarded based on expected growth and corporate base which just never really panned out. The real problem in Jax is the city trying to strip away just about every stadium based revenue stream from the Jags, when it was the Jags owner that paid to have those streams put in.

I would pack the marlins personally before I let the dolphins leave.

But I think the Bills could be a good option for SA honestly. They are looking for a possible move and it would fit them. The chance of the Dolphins Ever leaving south florida is none to none. They are worth too much and make too much. We are actually considered a major market in Football.

Which is exactly why baseball wants to be down here. If they can grow the tradition, they can grow the fan love and support and support the community like the dolphins have for years. If they can grow some rivalries like the Dolphins vs Jets, or Fins vs Bills. Then they can become a middle to major market in baseball even. The population is here, you just need to hook them.

when the fins came, the people down here were giants, browns, steelers, etc. fans. But, that changed and it can change with the future generation of yankees, mets, braves, etc fans down here now. It just takes time and getting them to go to the games, find players they love and love to root for.

If the marlins get the stadium and stop doing firesales and keep players in 10 years time they could be one of the top 10 franchises in baseball if they market it right.

I think you have to look no farther than the Dan Marino induction into the HoF last year to see how many fans the Dolphins have. Of the 20,000 at the ceremony, at least 17,500 of them were DolFans.

It is because of the tradition issue. I have many friends that are retired or live elsewhere in Florida, or in NC but they all still root for the Fins, and never would think of "going over" to the Panthers or Bucs or Jags just because they live closer to them now.

The same can happen to the Marlins, but we do need to have an owner with the vision to try to keep a competitive team on the field. That takes $$$ something that Loria hasn't enough of to do the job.

I've said before we (as a city) don't particularly care if its NFL or MLB, we just want another team.

You can take the Dolphins. :lol

Another thing, those people that grew up with the Browns, Giants, Steelers, Bears, are either dead or retired out of the area. The majority population is now Latino in So Fla, which presents opportunites and drawbacks. Drawback : unfamiliarity with baseball for some Latinos (Argentina, Chile, etc etc). Opportunity is they are a fresh market, a chance to really start something big. I have felt for years Huizenga, Henry and now Loria, have screwed up by not going after the international Latino market heavier. Getting the Marlins on the radio in places around the Caribbean basin. In 14 years the Marlins could have had a significant fan base besides the So Fla residents.

Dont worry man. Most of the venom is directed at Longhorns_Rule, who is obviously trolling. He's just given you all a bad name.

:thumbup True, no worries fyatuk.

Let's just say Mr. Longhorns will be taking a two-day vacation. :whistle

The Miami Herald hints that the San Antonio deal is just about a dead item. I nearly cried when I read that. I have never felt so confident that the new stadium deal is at hand as at that moment.

Does anyone know when this annoucement is going to be made? I have been gone all weekend so I really don't know the up to date news.

Well it has to be made (according to the Judge) by 12am Tuesday Morning......so they have just over 24 hours.

Okay so it can be any time tomorrow.

Wait, I thought this thing was like scheduled at a certain time.

I cant believe were still keeping up with this. The FO and the judge said the Marlins wont reach the deadline.

Did they say there is an extention of the deadline or not ?

Sorry for another question about this. Will this announcement be made by the mayor of Hialeah? Will it be on a radio station.. the same one he is always on?.

There is no announcement planned at this point, that we know of anyways. This is just the passing of the deadline Wolff put on the Marlins.
