Back from a business trip to Europe, Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria rejoined his red-hot team Friday and couldn't stop talking about the stirring 8-5 victory Thursday in Baltimore. Loria especially liked watching the highlight film of Miguel Cabrera's RBI single on an intentional walk attempt in the 10th, which followed the four-run rally with two outs in the ninth that forced extra innings. "If you noticed carefully, there was a tiny little grin on his face, because he knows what he's going to do. It was almost as if he was sizing up what he is going to do as the ball is in flight,'' he said. "Last night's game kind of reminded me of '03 (when the Marlins won the World Series). A few more of those and you start believing.'' With a payroll of just less than $15 million, the rookie-rich Marlins entered Friday 20-7 since being swept in consecutive series by Atlanta and Tampa Bay last month. "I'm sure we'll have other streaks during the year, too, winning streaks and losing streaks. It's nice to be where we are right now,'' Loria said. "I'm not surprised that they're playing well. These kids are oblivious to tension and stress.'' There's a chance they could go into the All-Star break at or close to.500. If that happens, will Loria give permission for the front office to make a trade to upgrade the team for a playoff run? "Don't ask me that question,'' he said with a smile. He (well, Beinfest, but whatever) went out and got Lo Duca et al in 2004 and Villone last year. Whether or not the deals were upgrades is debatable, but he wasn't afraid to make moves that added to the payroll the last two years.

June 24, 200620 yr I'd rather take any money we would be paying for an "upgrade" and give it to Train and Cabs instead of seeing them go bye bye for more pitching prospects after the season. One or two guys really won't make a difference and the aftermath of any deal could be devistating to the growth of this team. But that's just me.

But that's just me. i agree...any upgrade they made i would want to be another young prospect who doesnt cost much money so we can lock up the future of this organization for a long long time
June 24, 200620 yr The answer is yes......did it need to be asked? Loria said if they can win, he will spend some...they will still profit even if they add $5 million in payroll at the break.

June 24, 200620 yr We're not going to see any trades....IMHO. Willis, Cabrera....both staying. Maybe if somebody wants to give up a good fielding prospect they have for a hot bullpen guy we have....like when we traded Adrian for Uggie......but other than that...no trades. Loria parting with 5 Million to help what? Have the team finish at .440 instead of .380.
