Double-A pitchers

Featured Replies

well just in case you havent checked but i must say that there are plaenty of pitchers doing really well in carolina like julianel, tyler, olivera, cave, hutchinson etc. maybe we should bring soemone up or use tehm fora trade becuase if we can close up the pen we wont lose games like we did tonight. think we should trade some for hitter?

no..we have to develop what we have right now. we can't give up on someone whos been in the majors for barely over half a year. realistically, we can't content with a team full of rookies, and even though we've definetely overachieved, we have to look to the future and get these guys some experience. unless they're tanking horribly, we can't just kick em to the curb.

no

Funny that you went through a list of AA pitchers we have and missed the best two there currently, Garcia and Mildren. Hutchinson i'm afraid in his two AA starts this year has gotten shelled, which is what happened when he was in AA during the first part of his career. Julianel has been injured and hasnt pitched since early in the season. Tyler may well get a look in September as he is on the 40 man roster, but still walks too many batters to figure as much of a prospect at this stage. Cave is a 26 year old who walks too many batters much like Tyler. Olivera will turn 29 years old in august.

So basically of all the guys you mentioned, even combined there is close to zero trade value.

idk an we can still contend and were only 7 out last year we were like 5 out at the deadline

We are not contenders. That's not what this year is about. "Learn from it and play on." THAT'S what this year is about. We will not trade for stud hitters. We will not trade for stud pitchers. We will not trade for stud fielders. If we trade at all we will trade someone that dosen't fit into the overall plan for top prospects. Right now we are over achievers that are putting on a great show and giving the few that actually attend games their money's worth.

You totally missed out on the two best pitchers still in AA Mildren and Garcia. Maybe in September they can take a look at a few of these other guys and they'll probably need to look at Bostick who is on the 40 man to see if he still merits a spot.

I'd like to see Pinto and Petit again, and perhaps a few others, if for no other reason than to further evaluate their progress and readiness in 2007.

And I'd like to see Fulchino pitch more than a third of an inning. This may be the first time in four years here I've used the term "earned" when it came to giving a guy a chance or playing someone over another, but in Jeff's case I'd like to see him on the roster if there's room after the anticipated parting of the ways with Borowski, Herges and Moehler. My guess is he could be a respectable mop-up, long relief guy who has toiled in the system long enough.

I'm sure this will elicit the predictable "he sucks" response but having seen him pitch a number of times, whether with the Marlins or another team, I suspect he has the makeup to survive in the bigs.

I think Petit and Pinto need to regroup a little bit. Especially Petit. Let him get a nice string of starts together and bring him back in September.

As from Fulchino, I see him somewhere in the pen next year if we don't go for more JoBo and Herges types. Kensing/Mess/Tank/Resop/Mitre/Fulchino. Maybe a healthy Bowyer, or Pinto or Vargas turns into a LOOGY, or Cmart comes back strong for the 7th. Regardless, I think we see him again and he'll be nothing flashy, but just a fine low pressure arm. We agree!

I know what you meant Lou, but I hope Carlos Martinez doesnt pitch till 2008

excuse me we are contenders we are in every game pretty much that we play and it pisses me off to hear guys always talking about just building for the future when we can actaully win now and even if we dont make the playoffs it would be nice for the guys to get a little wild card hunt experience in september

agreed beinfest said so himself

with a good run and actaully take advatange of some reds losses we could be right in there

lol

if this team wants to be "contenders" they need to go out and take the next 3 games from pittsburgh for starters

and also, there are 9 teams in front of us... 9

so wat a few of them will die down soon stop with the negativity from you guys

ohhh yeah and why is it that teams in front of us by only a couple of games like the braves and the phillies are all trying to improve but u guys think beucase were young we cant make a push now im not saying to trade our young pitching maybe just a few of the young guys who have some upside to shore up some holes

and we can still make a run at this
