August 3, 200620 yr while i agree ramirez should not have been bunting with 2 strikes, it should have never gotten to that point. ramirez should be able to lay down a sac bunt. you can't blame girardi for the kid not excecuting. laying down a sac bunt doesn't take skill, it's just learning how to do it and it's pretty obvious hanley hasn't taken any time to even make an effort because he is terrible at it...inexcusable, especially when you have the speed ramirez does.
August 3, 200620 yr it's one thing if the guy can bunt to have him go ahead with 2 strikes & try to drop one down. 2nd & 3rd with one out is HUGE and I don't mind the call with another hitter. But Hanley's shown in previous attempts that he's an awful bunter. So yes while I blame Hanley for not getting the bunt down, that was NOT an example of putting your players in the best position to succeed.

With a left handed hitter at the plate, I'd say swing away with two strikes. But with a righty, the bunt is the right call. When he bunted the ball foul the second time, he hit the ball twice with his bat. He needs to spend some time in the cage laying down sac bunts.

And that has nothing to do with my comments from last night's game. Second, why not have both runners try to advance on steals with no outs. If Reggie makes it to third a sac fly could tie it. If Reggie gets thrown out at third, the pinch runner from first moves to second, still in scoring position. arent the % of stealing third lower than those of laying down the bunt and having a man on 2nd and 3rd with one out? *spins*

I was kind of still in shock from the Hanley bunt with 2 strikes that I didn't understand that. yeah, good point. not sure what that was about.
