August 9, 200620 yr Somebody tell me why Ross is batting 5th when Hermida, Ramirez, Olivo, and even Willingham on the bench are all better hitters??
August 9, 200620 yr you must've missed the 5 or so games this year where he's batted cleanup and come through.
August 9, 200620 yr Author you must've missed the 5 or so games this year where he's batted cleanup and come through. I watched them all. Anyone have his stats as a 4th or 5th hitter? I think they are deceiving some people. .245 hitters should bat 8th.

August 9, 200620 yr Author i believe he was in the 4-hole when he had that 2 homer game. ok 1 -2 homer game.......what is his batting average in those spots? .240?

August 9, 200620 yr u gotta ride him when hes on fire, then give him a breather when hes not. as mentioned before he can be very streaky
August 9, 200620 yr uggla should bat fifth. put ross/willingham 7th behind hermida...instead of hanley, who should be at the top of the order with his speed. amezaga hanley jacobs cabrera uggla hermida willingham/ross olivo
August 9, 200620 yr Author uggla should bat fifth. put ross/willingham 7th behind hermida...instead of hanley, who should be at the top of the order with his speed. amezaga hanley jacobs cabrera uggla hermida willingham/ross olivo I would keep Uggla in the 2 hole...he seems to do alright there. My lineup: Amezaga CF Uggla 2B Jacobs 1B Cabrera 3B Hermida RF Willingham LF Ramirez SS Olivo C
August 9, 200620 yr he hasn't been given any at bats anywhere else in the order since early in the season. his future looks to be as a run-producer, a guy you want to drive in runs ala jeff kent...that type of hitter shouldn't be hitting second, IMO. put him behind miggy, it would give cabrera some protection and uggla would probably do a much better job than willingham or ross could combined. hanram/alfredo at the top of the order would give pitchers fits as well with their speed.

August 9, 200620 yr Hanley Uggla Cabrera-the best hitter on the team is supposed to hit third Jacobs Olivo Hermida Ross Willingham Pitcher

That .618 line is his slugging, not OPS. Know many cleanup hitters with slugging percentages over .600, do ya? Also, I would like to see Uggla moved down to 4th or 5th. Hermida to 2nd.
August 9, 200620 yr Willingham should be in the lineup everyday, especially on the road where he hits much better (12 of 16 HR's on the road and an OPS over 300 points higher than at DS).
August 9, 200620 yr Amezaga Ramirez Cabrera Jacobs Uggla Olivo Willy Hermida or Ramirez Hermida Cabrera Jacobs Uggla Olivo Willy Ross I like the second one, that is the one I would do, if not flipping jacobs and cabrera when facing righties
August 9, 200620 yr The problem is that we don't have a true lead off hitter. Hanley is fast, but he's also a power hitter and right now he doesn't get on base as much as we need for a lead off guy. Amezaga hits the ball pretty well, but he's not very fast and he's out of position in the field.
August 9, 200620 yr A good leadoff hitter can hit for power. Last I checked what makes a player good at something isn't necessarily that he's bad at an important part of the game. That's like saying a player is a good outfielder because he can't pick groundballs.

That's like saying a player is a good outfielder because he can't pick groundballs. i think what he was trying to say is ramirez would be better utilized in a different part of the order because of his potential power. a .300+ hitter that can hit 20-25 hr's would be an ideal #2 or 3 hitter. let amezaga leadoff vs. righties. he's hitting over .300 with a .360 obp against righthanded pitching. he works pitchers, too, much like JP used to. against lefties you can let hanley leadoff for now until we find a long-term solution there (alfredo obviously isn't it)
