August 11, 200619 yr Beacon Journal - Don't be surprised if Guillermo Mota is released in the next day or two. General Manager Mark Shapiro has tried to move Mota, but no team has been willing to take him. A sign of the Tribe's disinterest in him: Mota hasn't pitched since July 24. Mota is clearly not in the team's long-term plans idk guys maybe we should give him a shot even though he is making 3 million which he definitly wont be making next year. also when franklyn german gets off the dl we need to give him a fair shot

August 11, 200619 yr Why does every former Marlin need to be considered for return? I agree with that...time to move forward not backwards.....
August 11, 200619 yr i say take a chance on him. He can't be worse than Moehler/Mitre. Just 2 years ago he was the best setup man in baseball
August 11, 200619 yr Been there, done that. He's pitched just as poorly this year as he did with us, what makes you think he's suddenly going to get any better? I'd much rather go with Resop, who at least has upside.
August 11, 200619 yr Author well one he will be cheaper and two he and german when he gets healthy can overpower hitters for one inning and shut teams down. could u imagine mota german kensing and martinez we could really use a releiver like him

Billy Kotch once overpowered hitters, you want to bring him back too? Seriously, what has Mota done in the past 2 seasons to make you think he can overpower hitters anymore?
August 11, 200619 yr Mota was one of the reasons why we were so pathetic down the stretch last year after we essentially quit. He can rot in hell.
August 11, 200619 yr I'd say bring him, back, whats left on his contract can't be to much, Maybe another change of scenery, who knows, players do weird things, he'll start pitches well again. He was the best setup man and possibly the best releiver a few years ago. The difference between Koch and Mota, is Mota has stuff. Just a year and a half ago he sported a 97 mph 2 seam fastball a great slider and the best changeup ive ever seen on the Marlins. We are desperate right now, If Mota is open, take him. And if he pitches poorly, so what get rid of him.
August 11, 200619 yr The team needed to stop using him for 2 and 3 inning outings last year... i agree, jack over used him.. i would take him back.. better than mitre

August 11, 200619 yr Author yes bring mota back of course and german has proven that he can pitch well for a whole year and we need to let him do so when hes healthy
August 11, 200619 yr Why does every former Marlin need to be considered for return? Why does every player that is DFA'd/not good enough for any other team need to be considered by Marlins' fans?
August 11, 200619 yr Damn shame how he was overused to what seems like the point of career ineffectiveness here in Florida.

August 12, 200619 yr well, wasn't CoPat DFA'd by the Cubs? Not saying Matos has anything like the ceiling of CoPat, but there are diamonds in the rough there at times. Plus, every fan likes to think that there club represents the new change of scenery that could jump-start a guy's career.
