The Loria lovers on this site hate to admit it, but depressing attendance figures, low payroll, poor marketing, etc., are a tactic, and have been used to pursue the business goals of a sports franchise before. The gist of it is "I can't survive here without a taxpayer funded stadium, they won't give it to me, so I must be allowed to move the franchise." It happened in Montreal. Guess who was the owner? And guess what role his son-in-law played?

Hey Catch, spreading your BS about Montreal again? I'm surprised it took you so late in the day, usually you're spewing by 10-11am.

Everything regarding what happened in Montreal is available as a matter of public record online, both the arbitration panel's findings and the courts. All of it exonerates Loria and Catch knows this but ignores those findings of fact because they don't serve his purpose.

Catch knows all this but continues on a daily basis to try and mislead you with more of his conspriracy theories and guarantees of fact that are nothing by delusional rantings of a person who has spread venom on numerous times here before.

glad to see i'm not the only one that sees that :thumbup

You aren't. Problem is that he thinks everyone just eats up his crap as gospel. There are a couple others like him as well. One that 2 hours before our last game was on here trying to tell everyone why we weren't going to have DTrain and Miggy back next year. Pitiful.

Either you attend 20 marlins games per season or we will take your green card away...in conjunction with you attend 10 games per season or you cannot have the earlybird special

Actually Dolphin Stadium mabe too small!

You must be seen wearing Marlins gear at a minimum of 20 Marlins games or risk being barred from all South Beach restaurants and any club openings for the next 2 years. At the end of the 2 year penalty period you will only be allowed to arrive at your SoBe destination in an economy car (wearing PayLess shoes).

Guys, I just came up with a brillient idea. What if we at MB.com put our cash together as a way to get fans to their seats. We can make TV, radio ads...web banners...print ads...etc saying how Loria doesn't want us at the games, and how the only way to improve the team is to fill every seat...

I doubt it will work and I doubt that we would end up doing anything, but seriously, the only way to beat Loria is to do what he doesn't want us to

Not all on this site hate Loria. And I find it hard to believe he doesnt want fans at games. That's really a harsh and totally unfounded statement.

If he didnt want fans in the seats, he wouldnt have spent money in 2003,2004 and 2005. He didnt simply wake up one morning and say, "You know what? I don't want any people to come see my baseball team play games."

Get a clue.

Not all of us hate Loria...some of us hate Loria and Huizenga...some of us hate Loria, Huizenga and Selig (The real Marlins fan)

For the South Beach and Miami Beach crowd:

Buy a 20 game ticket package and get a free same sex marriage license.

This team has taken enough of our money...these a**holes up stairs should spend some of their millions on putting a decent product out there before anyone with a real job puts money in addition to paying for tickets.

4 years in a row there has been a better than decent product out there.

The fact is, no other team has the sheer amount of extenuating situations as the Florida Marlins do that are the direct cause of poor attendance:

1. Poor stadium location. I highly doubt alot of fans live within the Carol City area. It is a 20 minute plus drive for the majority of fans. Which wouldn't be that big of a deal if not for:

2. The weather of South Florida. Look, people are not going to drive the 20-30 minutes and pay the 100 bucks or so if the threat of rain is in the area(which is often). It's just not very pleasant to sit in a rain delay at Joe Robbie stadium, no matter how big of a fan you are. Which makes the roof issue such an obvious need.

3. We have been dealing with poor ownership groups for the past 8 or so years. We just can't trust the people in charge when they have the type of firesales (twice) that I would find it easy to say are the two biggest firesales in the past 15-20 years in any sport. The threat is constantly in our mind.

We still had very respectable numbers of 3 million+, just under 2 million, 1.7 million,1.7 million and 2.3 million fans from 1993-1997, despite the first 2 situations, a terrible baseball strike, and awful baseball teams from 93-96. With a new stadium, a roof, and an ownership group we can trust, I have no doubt the Marlins will 2 million + fans a year, with great tv numbers. The fans are there. Don't believe the hype.

Honestly, the fan base needs time. It's been through a lot and the attendance was slowly increasing before the firesale happened, which was shunned by 100% of casual fans. What do you expect, a greasedown and a shiatzu?

I agree that the fan base needs time. We've had many discussion on this. The generation who grew up on the Marlins need to come to purchasing power. They and others need to recognize the Marlins will be taking permanent residence here. There's too much to do to waste time supporting a lame duck franchise. However, the Marlins' owners can't be too patient either.

This has to be the #1 reason casual fans do not go to games. it rains everyday in the summer down here. It will be sunny at Dolphins Stadium but be pouring rain in Kendall. People won't go to a game, spending all that money, just to have to sit in the rain. I went to two games last year, both times it rained. Not enough to stop the game but enough to make watching the game really suck.
