October 8, 200619 yr And if my aunt had ba**s she would be my uncle. :mischief lololol...I haven't heard that in years.
October 8, 200619 yr accomodate the most overpaid player in history. I'd love to hear you try to explain this one. Have you even looked at his numbers ??? He is paid more than anyone else by far. He lead the AL for errors at 3B this year. And there are better players offensively as well. Either he is overpaid, or they are underpaid. Maybe it's just the common man in me who busts his but for around 40,000 a year, but I have a hard time calling anyone who is making 7 figures "underpaid", so you figure out which option is left. Oh, and A-Rod struck out more times (139) than anyone on the Marlins this year as well (and that is saying quite a bit). How about batting .133 and .071 in his last 2 years in the post season? I'm not saying the guy has no talent or completely sucks. Just that he isn't worth what he is paid, by A LOT. I'm also saying that he doesn't fill a critical need for us. This year's team scored more HRs than any previous season's. Cabrera hit almost 340 with over 110 RBIs without "protection". Offense isn't the problem. We need a CF (and we already have a converted SS trying it) and a decent bullpen. Giving away any of our best players without addressing either of those is a mistake. Especially considering that this idea could potentially screw Hanley out of the starting lineup (if he can't play CF and A-Rod takes SS).
October 8, 200619 yr Hanley can play CF. and even in ARod's terrible season, his numbers were still fantastic

Being the most overpaid player and the most paid player is a different story ,I have no doubt Hanley could fill that whole in CF
October 8, 200619 yr Hanley can play CF. and even in ARod's terrible season, his numbers were still fantastic I hadn't really paid attention to AR's stats considering the roar of criticism from NY fans and BBTN's obsession with showing what seemed like every error he made, but you look at his basic stats and Ramp is right, he had a pretty darn good year. How would you like to have a guy batting .290 with 35 HRs and 120+ RBIs hitting behind Miggy? Sheesh.
October 8, 200619 yr Hanley can play CF. If he could play CF he would've been there already with AA & Andino platooning at SS. Mostly AA. But this idea sounds as good as Cabrera playing 1B (not at all). And so far as I can tell, Hanley never played in the OF at all in his time in the minors. There's no guarantee on this experiment working. Being the most overpaid player and the most paid player is a different story ,I have no doubt Hanley could fill that whole in CF Agreed. And again, he is the highest payed player, was one of the worst defensively this year, and wasn't among the best offensively this year either. Yes, he has some nice personal numbers. So did/does Carlos Delgado. That deal didn't get us very far either (not blaming Carlos, but simply saying just adding offense isn't the answer). And more than that, what has he done for any team since he's been making tht kind of money? The Rangers never got out of last place and the Yankees have even finished worse since acquiring him (they were in the WS 6 out of the last 8 years, but 0 of the last 3 with A-Rod). Again, Hanley has never played a professional game as OFer, let alone in CF at Dolphin Stadium. How would you like to have a guy batting .290 with 35 HRs and 120+ RBIs hitting behind Miggy? Sheesh. Again - Offense wasn't the problem this year. Yes, a 35+ HR guy behind Cabrera would be nice. But we don't need it like we need an actual CFer and a bull pen.

There's no guarantee on this experiment working. If Andino was a competent ballplayer, you might have seen that. Right now Andino is at best a bench player. He has no pop in his bat and has a sh*tty attitude. There is a belief among many that Hanley will eventually be a CF. Now would be a great time.

What I was saying was that I really hadn't paid attention to how good his numbers were until Ramp said something because all I heard and saw were his mistakes. The fact is the guy had a better season than the press would suggest and I was wistfully thinking about a big bat behind Miggy. Earlier (above) I had said I thought this was just fantasy (especially the $$$ part) and I still believe that but for a second thinking about the two guys hitting back to back is what the hot stove league is all about.
October 8, 200619 yr You don't move Hanley out of SS for a Robert Andino but you do it for Alex who happens to be baseball's best SS. The lineup had two huge holes and Alex would turn one of the holes into a major strength. We would have the league's best hitting SS and one of the top hitting CFs.

For what I suggested Andino would only need to be competent vs Lefties, or at least moreso than Amezaga, which isn't saying much. Amezaga would be the reg SS. As far as this "belief among many", there's no basis for it. You don't move Hanley out of SS for a Robert Andino but you do it for Alex who happens to be baseball's best SS. The lineup had two huge holes and Alex would turn one of the holes into a major strength. We would have the league's best hitting SS and one of the top hitting CFs. Actually, the idea would be to move Hanley to CF because we need a CF and all others that we have suck and there is this strange idea that he belongs in CF. Putting in Amezaga & Andino would've been the solution in SS this past season if Hanley was the answer to CF. And again, the lineup wasn't the problem. It was defense & bullpen.
October 8, 200619 yr The Yanks wouldn't cover any more than $3-4 Million a year on A-Rod's deal, but honestly, I think if there's was a legit shot of this happening Loria would do it. He is, afterall, just a fan who happens to own a team. I think if you dangled A-Rod in front of his face he'd be hard-pressed not to jump at it.

Hanley's issue is not his arm. Realistically, his only downfall is his penchant for botching the routine groundball. He usually makes the "holy sh*t how did he get to that ball" play.

He has the speed and arm to cover center field pretty well. I think hanley could do it, if they can work on his routes in dolphin stadium (it is hard out there). Worst to worst ARod at 3B Hanley at SS Uggla at 2B Willingham 1B Miggy at LF Olivo at C Hermida at RF ????? at CF But I would rather see Arod at SS and Hanley at CF, leave Miggy at 3B because he is happy there

I can picture it now......... A-Rod freakin kills it all year, puts up MVP numbers and the FO does the only next logical thing: bench him during the playoffs so we dont get stuck with his 1-19.

Specially because Miggy's numbers would skyrocket

October 8, 200619 yr People keep Mentioning Offense wasnt the problem last year and no one said it was but A-rod can fill seats and can provide protection for Cabs, we could have a better lineup than the Mets and if were winning people will show up and possibly getting Loria to spend more money pitching wise we still have JJ we still have Anibal and Olsen
October 8, 200619 yr The only reason I'd be in favor of this is because the Marlins would at least have a replacement for Miguel at 3B once they have to trade him because they cannot afford his '08 arby salary.
October 8, 200619 yr Another option to consider is that the Drays like Nolasco alot, what about Eijah Dukes for Nolasco? His talent is top notch and he could be a 300 25HR 100 RBI guy in CF for us next year. He is pretty much ready even if he is a head case. But personally I think Arod would be amazing but the money just isnt there honestly.

I dont either, but dont say it isnt there when Loria has opened us wallet out of nowhere before
October 8, 200619 yr The only reason I'd be in favor of this is because the Marlins would at least have a replacement for Miguel at 3B once they have to trade him because they cannot afford his '08 arby salary. Wait...you want A-Rod because you think he'll stay longer and for less? People keep Mentioning Offense wasnt the problem last year and no one said it was but A-rod can fill seats and can provide protection for Cabs, we could have a better lineup than the Mets and if were winning people will show up and possibly getting Loria to spend more money pitching wise we still have JJ we still have Anibal and Olsen The Mets's offense wouldn't mean much if they didn't have the bullpen they have. They also don't have a defensive hole in CF. And A-Rod isn't going to stop the rain or build a roof over the stadium or make the stadium closer to anyone. You might get a few more people there, but he, just like any personnel change, won't address the reasons why fans don't go to the games. and when I say "belief among many", I dont mean the posters here. I mean scouts and front offices alike. I don't care if you mean the high council of the baseball gods. Hanley hasn't played anywhere in the OF in his pro career. You need better reasoning than he can run fast. Reggie can run fast. He's not exactly a top notch CF. Hanley is an infielder, and it makes no sense to expect that moving him to a position he hasn't played at all will result in a defensive upgrade. If we were gonna give up some major talent for a .300 batting 30 HR guy it should be Vernon Wells, because again, we actually need a CF. Not another SS playing CF. And he'd probably cost us less than A-Rod too.

Wait...you want A-Rod because you think he'll stay longer and for less? Yes. Because the only way I see the Marlins going for this deal is if the Yankees agree to pick up the tab for most his contract, leaving the Marlins obligation somewhere between $5 to 7 million per year for the remainder of his contract.
