December 21, 200619 yr MarlinsBaseball.com is seeking columnists as the Columns section of the main site is making a return. Until 2002, the main site had a team of columnists who would submit columns at their own pace. The subjects would mostly be about the Marlins but at times would be about baseball in general. Until now this has been on hiatus but I have decided it's time for it to return. Just like back then, I am still unable to pay for this but it's something to add to your resume anyway. If you are interested in being a columnist for the site, please email me your first column at Admin@marlinsbaseball.com If I like it and feel it'd be a good addition to the web site, I'll add it to the main site and create a page for you on the main site that will hold all your future columns. To read some of the old columns so you can get an idea of what was done, here are two of our old columnist's columns. I copied and pasted these just to give you a reference. The new columnist pages will look different. http://www.marlinbaseball.com/columnistsbaysore.php http://www.marlinbaseball.com/columnistsrabel.php As you can see there were no set days where columns were do or deadlines, you'd work at your own pace and submit them whenever you felt like doing so. If you've got any questions, just ask. Those of you who will be submitting columns, thanks for helping add fresh content to the site!
December 21, 200619 yr This is a great idea! There are some very good writers lurking in these forums.
December 22, 200619 yr Author This is a great idea! There are some very good writers lurking in these forums. Yep, hopefully they will be interested.
December 22, 200619 yr Admin, I'm going to get to writing one. I do the same thing for my college radio stations website, its about our womens hockey team, but I'd be happy to send you one as a sample of my work.
December 22, 200619 yr Author Sounds good, thanks to those who have sent in so far. Some fantastic work already.
December 22, 200619 yr That sounds like a really cool idea, Admin. I will see what I can come up with!
December 22, 200619 yr Author That's fine, you could use your forum name or another alias if you'd want.
December 23, 200619 yr good timing Admin. Maybe a year ago when I had time and sent in those articles that you promised to post but never did. :mischief
December 23, 200619 yr hey that was funny reading my old ones... I wrote back in Feb of 2002 that I was hopeful Loria would be able to get a stadium built.
December 23, 200619 yr This is a great idea! There are some very good writers lurking in these forums. Yeah, well, I submitted one anyways... :whistle
February 22, 200719 yr As a published author, I'd love to expand my work to baseball. Ill be submitting an article soon.
February 28, 200719 yr Writing for this site is actually what jump-started my sports journalism career. I wrote for the site when I was 13-years-old, granted it wasn't too impressive, but it helped me get a job with the Boca Raton News as a freelance writer. I've been writing for the Boca News for about three years now, and at 17-years-old I have proven to be their most respected writer outside of the editor. And (if all works out) I will be covering high school sports for the Sun-Sentinel next year. I would suggest that anyone with future aspirations in sports journalism to take advantage of this. I actually may go ahead and start writing for the site again...
February 28, 200719 yr No, "~Columnist JC~" died when he was banned in late 2002. This will be the beginning of Josh Clinton, an actual journalist that can write with correct grammar. hahaha
February 28, 200719 yr Author As a published author, I'd love to expand my work to baseball. Ill be submitting an article soon. I look forward to your work. No, "~Columnist JC~" died when he was banned in late 2002. This will be the beginning of Josh Clinton, an actual journalist that can write with correct grammar. hahaha :lol Well I hope you do decide to write for the site again. I'm glad it played a role in your work with journalism.
February 28, 200719 yr The only thing I have found may be difficult writing for the site again is the fact that I'm good with specific, in-depth stories such as feature pieces on specific players, coaches, teams, ect. To do that, you need to have access to people for interviews, and that's a little easier at the high-school level. I'm not the best at just writing out my opinion, at least not anymore.
July 20, 200719 yr For the record, I'd be 100 percent in to do this if you ever wanted to try it out.
August 9, 200718 yr I used to be a columnist for a website, however, my columns would not work well with this site.
August 9, 200718 yr I'm surprised more people haven't responded to this, about half the members swear they're either columnists or beat writers.
August 9, 200718 yr Author Unfortunate because I think this could've been a great addition to the site with more interest.
August 9, 200718 yr Well, I'm already doing sports writing for the FIU newspaper, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to contribute extremely regularly, but I'm definitely going to submit something.
August 10, 200718 yr I would love to do it, but I just don't watch the Marlins enough to warrant the job. Good luck finding someone.
August 10, 200718 yr I would love to do it, but I just don't watch the Marlins enough to warrant the job. Good luck finding someone. Same here. I would write for a Yankees sports board but there aren't any I have found that compete with the fun I have in here [too many posers and bandwagoners]. So here I sit - a Yankee fan in a sea of teal.
