March 16, 200719 yr The Marlins are considering making an offer for Angel Pagan, perhaps using shortstop prospect Robert Andino as bait, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports. Such a deal wouldn't solve the problems of either team. Pagan wasn't quite as bad as expected for the Cubs last year, hitting .247/.306/.394 in 170 at-bats, but he doesn't have the range in center to make up for his bat and he'd be fortunate just to have a long career as a fifth outfielder. As for Andino, well, he's just 22, giving him plenty of time to improve. However, he'd be a downgrade from Tomas Perez in a utility role right now. He hit .255/.303/.363 in a great hitter's park at Triple-A Albuquerque last year. Rotoworld, care of Fox Sports. Pagan turns 26 in July. 2004 in AA he hit .287/.346/.405 in 450 PA. 4 HR, 42/96 BB/K, 29/5 SB. 2005 in AAA hit .271/.333/.395 in 516 AB. 8 HR, 49/111 BB/K, 27/15 SB 2006 in Wrigley hit .247/.306/.394 in 170 AB. 5 HR, 15/28 BB/K, 4/2 SB ---- Who else feels the excitement?
March 16, 200719 yr Cubs wont trade him... ESPECIALLY for that. Pie will be starting in CF next year for the Cubs and im pretty sure there is no question about that.. unless they get desperate come trading deadline.
March 16, 200719 yr not a very inspiring trade rumour...Marlins are almost better off converting Andino to an Outfielder. I have seen Pagan play quite a bit. I believe Andino is the better player of the 2
March 16, 200719 yr Magically turn Murton into a CF'er and i'll jump for joy :blush Pagan is pretty meh. Not really an upgrade over any of our CF'ers
March 16, 200719 yr Pagan is pretty meh. Not really an upgrade over any of our CF'ers What does that really say about Pagan, whom I know nothing about.
March 16, 200719 yr I wish we could get Felix Pie. Why don't we offer Andino and Nolasco for him? Probably because we know the Cubs won't accept that.
March 16, 200719 yr Somehow I suspect this was a story that was agent driven more than anything else, or some minion in Marlins' FO was tasked with making a list of every "available" (read non-DLed and breathing) centerfielder and Pagan crept on it. He's not the worst ballplayer in the world but with this team wrestling with what to do with Cody Ross and trying to figure out whether they are carrying 12 or 13 pitchers (I read a quote from Fredi somewhere this morning that if you did the math indicated he was now leaning towards twelve pitchers after earlier saying he'd go with 13) for the life of me I don't know how a ballplayer of his caliber fits in here. I think most would agree he's no upgrade over the choices we have. On a side note (not worth starting another thread) Joey Gathright, who is having a pretty good spring is fighting for his life in KC. Interesting read even if you're not interested in him as our centerfielder especially the Billy Butler remark at the end of the story. http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/16913339.htm
March 16, 200719 yr (not really sure why you found that comment so interesting 03) a shame that Billy Butler wouldn't crack the team out of Spring, but he is going to be a good one
March 16, 200719 yr (not really sure why you found that comment so interesting 03) a shame that Billy Butler wouldn't crack the team out of Spring, but he is going to be a good one I thought it was a wonderfully sarcastic and TELLING comment about KC through the eyes of an opposing scout. Obviously you didn't.
March 16, 200719 yr Pagan is average at best and not the long term answer. In our system, Pagan could end up stealing 25-30 bases but I don't see how he is an upgrade over Eric Reed. It just seems like the Cubs are the only franchise that will do business with Admin Beinfest.
March 16, 200719 yr It just seems like the Cubs are the only franchise that will do business with Admin Beinfest. Mets? Angels? Dodgers? Red Sox? Twins?
March 17, 200719 yr Pagan's not great, not even good IMO. I'd rather have Theriot, Murton, Pie (untouchable, ROY 2007) from the Cubs. I'd also consider trading for Ronnie Cedeno, who just got optioned I believe, and try to convert him (at the minor league level). I'd take a long look at a lot of guys before Pagan.
March 17, 200719 yr All that Angel Pagan has going for him is that his name sounds funny when pronounced literally. He actually didn't do poorly when he started for the Cubs but truthfully he is not a longterm solution and worth trading Andino for, although I really think Andino will and should be traded sometime.
March 17, 200719 yr The Twins love to do business with us 12.2.05 NEVER FORGET! :verysad :verysad :gofishb SUPPORT THE TROOPS :gofishb
