Craptastic Sunday game/series thoughts

Featured Replies

Well, we suck, big time.

It's amazing to me that we have a losing record at home, and our pitching is better on the road.

As for today, what is up with wearing black jerseys in 1000000 degree heat? I mean, seriously, Olivo was taking off his mask between almost every batter to wipe away sweat and Vandy kept going to the rosin. There's a reason the Dolphins make the OPPONENTS wear dark colors on a Sunday.

But, even with that slip up, the reason we lost the game today was simply pitch selection. I think Vandy threw like 6 curveballs the whole game, and while I realize he can throw 93 with movement, it's not effective if they know it's coming. You breeze through the lineup the first time, yet keep throwing fastballs? Come on! Even if you can't control your curveball as a reliable out pitch, there's nothing wrong with going with it to weaker hitters as a "get me over" strike early in the count. It was just absolutely unacceptable to see the pitcher not once, but twice, inside out a fastball, the second time on the fist pitch after an intentional walk. Stupid stupid stupid.

As for the DRays, unless we decide to start spending money, I would absolutely take any bet that had them winning a pennant before we win our next one. Our pitching isn't nearly as good as we'd like to believe, and that's all we've got going for our organization, there aren't any stud position prospects at catcher or center-field riding in on white horses. We've got less wrong with our team than they do, but we can't fix it internally nearly as well as they'll fix their rotation.

we have won two game we lose to tampa that is sad!!!!! why are we lossing that much at home that question that marlins need ask them self why? this not home sweet home anymore

I can't even name the Devil Ray pitching even after the game yet somehow he went 7 with only 2 solo shots given up. The whole strikeout thing is really getting old.

maybe they are tired or "uninspired" playing in front of less than adequate crowds and when they do draw a decent crowd (ie, mets and red sox) more than half the park is routing against them......sounds like it would be pretty discouraging to me if i were a player at "home" so maybe that could account for the home record??? maybe

Im not sure I would bet on them winning a pennant before us just because of who is in their division and the resources those guys have, but I would definitely bet on them being better than us pretty soon.

Couldnt see todays game due to a teeth pulling, looks like i was better off judging by the play by play.

Gotta beat them indians.

even worse.....

Phillies lose 2 of 3 in KC

Braves about to lose 3 of 4 at home to the Cubs

Mets lose 2 of 3 to Detroit

the Nats took 2 of 3 in Minnesota!!!

and we couldn't even capitalize...

yea, that's it!

Thank goodness professional athletes are not sensitive little whiners and do not need not "inspired" crowds of tens of thousands cheering for them in order to perform.

Well it's no coincidence that free agents always make that their first complaint of the team when they leave.....

Borowski, Burnett, Olsen (still on the team)...i'm sure there were others.

Ok, why would a PRO baseball player get "uninspired" when im pretty sure they would get more than inspired by the millions of dollars they would possibly get from winning. They might not get those millions here but they can get them somewhere else....if they do good.

So what? They have all done very well here at one time, so the point that was being argued about lack of "inspired" crowds having an impact on the play is totally moot.

Yeah, I mean it doesn't help that they lay eggs in front of huge pro Marlins crowds, like last night, which, AB for AB, was definitely the worst game of the year that I've been witness to.

the small crowd thing is bulls***. The 2003 team had no problem with a small crowd all through out the year until the playoffs. Last year we had no problem they were 42-39. ( they had a better home record than the Braves 40-41 and the phillies 41-40 and they always draw a good crowd.) 42-39 is not great but atleast its over .500 and its better then what were are doing now.

Gotta put some of that blame on Olivo, no? I don't recall him shaking off Miguel much, but even if he did Olivo's gotta get out there & set him straight.

Does it not dawn people that perhaps there's a reason he didn't use his curveball, or much of any other breaking pitch? Pitchers do have days when they suffer from control or mechanical issues or their curveball just stays flat or their slider doesn't slide. I would say that more and more it becomes obvious that the complexities of the game are completely lost here.

This childish view that everything is black and white, that people here could actually call a game or even have the faintest idea what the right pitch is at a given time without scouting reports, film and other info on opposing batters is just laughable.

As for Olivo he could be guilty as sin, but just is likely is he's calling for a pitch down and away and getting one down the middle or calling for a curveball and watching it come in straight as a string. I don't say that to defend Olivo but rather make the point we don't know.

We just don't know. We can use every loss as a launching pad for more naysaying and bad-mouthing but in the end none of us has the faintest idea what was going on between pitcher and catcher on Sunday.

Or any other game for that matter.

Now stop that 2003. You should know that bringing logic and common sense into an opportunity to bash Olivo is not acceptable around here. It's like saying Miggy isn't all that great at 3B and should be moved to 1B. Unless one of the kids say it.

Ask Cub fans if big crowds have anything to do with a team's success.

Ask Yankees fans if big crowds have anything to do with a teams success.

Or Royals fans.

I don't care who you blame. It's not about blame, it's about common sense.

There are 3 guys on the team (technically 4 if you count tomorrow's starter) who watch the pitcher while he's working. The pitching coach, the manager, the catcher and tomorrow's pitcher, clip-board in hand.

Somewhere along the line, one of those guys should have a light-bulb over his head light up.

You could blame Olivo for bad pitch selection. You could blame Kranitz for not attempting to emphasize showing different speeds and "get me over" pitches for honesty's sake. You could blame Fredi for sending a pitcher out there after bad innings when he only had one pitch (and a straight one) working. Or, you could blame Scott Olsen for not walking over and bashing someone with his clipboard that shows a dispropotionate amount of fastballs.

The objective of my assertion was not to blame anyone individually, but illustrate how fundamentally out of whack I believe our team to be.

Ask Cub fans if big crowds have anything to do with a team's success.

Yeah throughout their history theyve always had huge crowds and have only managed to win 26 world serieses.
