Benitez = Julio

Talk about a fall from grace! This dude was an all-star in 2004 and has sucked donkey balls ever since. I still think he's an upgrade over Messenger. :D

:lol

Mando is a pos period. Some people on this forum cry about errors a little to much. Hanley made a dumb play, but Armando didnt make anything better. I think ill take Hanley's errors while hes young, and the bat that he carries. Same reason Armando got booed out of SF. I'm surprised noone blamed Hermida for his throw home yet...

Your probably right, errors have had nothing to do with the 7 game skid.

In fact, when we made 3 errors in one inning the other day that probably increased our chances of a getting a win.

Why would anyone blame Hermidas throw home? It was a laser. Treanor tried to grasp it, but got 3rd degree burns through his mitt. Luckily he still has his hand. It wasnt much more than a nearly unrecognizable molten mass of string and animal skin by the time Mando got there.

Well not really, but it was one hell of a throw, if he would of got it up a smidge higher the runner was gunned easily.

Obviously when an inning begins to snowball due to errors that is never a good thing. Let's not try to over exagerate. You for one have been one of those posters who cry over every error made. The error was bad sure ( Hanleys bat has won many more games). armando could have been mature, calmed down, not called out his teamate, and pitched out of the inning. Team Loss. Not a 1 error loss

Hermida is the whipping boy. Your not able to give hime any credit around here until he wins an MVP.

I have to say it again, as a PROFESSIONAL PITCHER (and VETERAN) you cannot lose your cool out there. To say that the error was the whole reason for that inning is not realistic. Armando has to collect himself in that situation and do his damn job. He failed!! He showed up Hanley in the worst way and then proceeded to make a fool of himself. Melt down just like I said. He is the one to control that situation and he just didn't do his job. Sorry guys but that is how I see it.

I really worry about Beinfest not relying on his young arms. It is strange, he has this ability to find good, young arms like Lindstrom, Owens, Gregg etc... but he doesn't want to use them. I fear that Beinfest puts too much emphasis on the mental aspects of baseball, which greatly worries me. And yes, I am assuming that it is Beinfest's call to have Fredi use Julio/Benitez so much.

The Hermida bashing has gone down quite a bit since he stopped doing so much bash worthy sh*t. The only time I hear about it is when people like you go "Where is all the Hermida bashing now?"

0 earned runs = great thread

The stats may read that, but the performance speaks for itself. Not defending Hanley here, but to glare and yell at your teammate on the field after an error, then not back up home on the next play, then throw all straight fastballs, thats all on Armando.

Well lets be honest Ross, you are kinda defending Hanley. If he makes a ridiculously routine play to end the 8th none of this conversation happens.

Everything Benitez did AFTER the error was unprofessional and mega-lame but this thread is ridiculous.

Mando does not = Julio

Armando Benitez is terrible. Take last night away or imagine Hanley getting that incredibly easy 3rd out.... and he is still terrible. Its not like Hanley made that error last night and ALL OF A SUDDEN Benitez started struggling, something that was absolutely stunning be we, nor anyone else in the league, has ever seen that from Armando Benitez before.

News flash: This is a message board. If posters want to comment on major leaguers who can't make routine plays on a ROUTINE basis, then so be it. Its not crying.

Get over yourself.

To be clear, I'm much angrier about him showing up a teammate on the field. Thast just something you dont do.

:thumbup

Hanley just facilitated the loss, Benetiz is the one who did the majority of the dirty work.

The fact that none of the runs were earned is pointless/

Riiiiight... i don't usually stand up for Mndo (i actually hate him), but the gme my frinds was hanleys fault (at least bott of 8th).

mando had 2 pitches 2 outs before hanley made the error.

Here's my weird view of seeing it...

after the error, if the pitcher gives up a hit or two, he's still "in the moment" of anger and it's almost/i] excusable. Once you get beyond a batter or two, it's time to get your head out of your ass and make some pitches. Keep it a ballgame and hope that your teammates pick you up in the next inning.

This loss should not be pinned solely on Benitez. I know the Hanley love fest is in full swing here but when you have the chance to get out of an inning with a one run lead and you throw a ball ten feet over the first baseman's head on a routine ground ball, that is inexcusable.

My take, FWIW, is that it's Hanley's fault for the lazy error, and Mando's fault for losing his composure. But really, what's the point in playing the blame game? Who cares if it's 100% one guy's fault, or 50-50? Let's just move on and hope the team recovers from this funk. Better to look at the little good things in each game. Like last night, the pitching and defense were excellent, for the first 23 outs. Cabs-Pujols both go yard. It was a good game, until the error.

I guess this is the game thread, so I'll post it here:

I found it interesting that in both of today's game recaps in the Herald and the Sun-Sentinel, there were no quotes from players, or the manager. This is the first time this year I can recall this happening, as I was particularly interested to see what some players and Fredi had to say. I wonder why there were no quotes....

Thats a good observation.

I noticed this also but neglected to post it.

I think it speaks volumes that there were no post game quotes.
