Attendance Limbo

Featured Replies

Estimated 400 people in the stands today, only 200 or so around for the end of the game.

Believed to be the smallest crowd to witness a MLB game in decades.

Way to go, South Florida. Way to show those politicians that 400 million for a new stadium would be money well-spent.

yeah, saw the highlights. jeremy's HR to the fish thank.... i saw about 5 people sitting in there.

Herald reported nine people in outfield bleachers. Nine.

Wow.

10,000 paid attendance.

We can play this game with several teams.

It was a day game in 95 degree weather between two last place teams. What more can you really expect?

I was there and I would not have gone if I knew the weather conditions were going to be so bad. In my 6 years of regularly going to Marlins games, today was the most miserable experience (weather wise) of all-time. If I weren't Latin I'd have a nasty sunburn right now. I came home with a nasty case of dehydration.

But nice try beating the dead horse and trolling in the process.

BTW, see those two dots, two sections over from the RF foul pole? I'm the one on the right.

Wow.

There were atleast 100.

The Herald never lets facts get in the way of a good story.

How do you find the high res pictures on CBS sportsline?

Before I forget, the new Herald beat writer for the Marlins has an unhealthy obsession with mentioning small crowds in every write-up.

Is 1024x768 always a valid substitution? How'd you figure out those exact dimensions?

I don't do this too often so I can't tell you that. In my experience, 1024x768 and 800x600 works most of the time. TimeWrecker actually showed me that little trick a few years ago. Maybe he or rorod can further explain how to determine the proper dimensions.

That is a smaller crowd than my nephew's Pop Warner team drew last week. And that is not an exaggeration. In fairness to the Marlins, it WAS the first game of the season. :mischief

Well, we're part of the people that aren't going. You can't say it's sad that nobody goes, when we don't go neither.

yeah i showed this picture earlier to hanleylicious.... unbelievable

btw, ifesta, do you know any code that would work with the presswire pictures that are on the sportsline gallery

Why don't the Marlins play these games in Jupiter? They really should have just moved the whole series up there. They'd probably draw more fans and it would give a chance for Palm Beach residents to watch the team.

Who's "we"? I still go to the games...

tampa did it, and it was successful. they sold out 3 straight games in orlando vs the rangers.

i realize that the marlins and rays are 2 different teams, and orlando and jupiter and 2 vastly different cities...but i think your idea is good and the marlins shouldve thought about moving a series(esp this one) somewhere else for the sake of drawing interest.

now, another point was that orlando and the rays had the deal agreed upon during the middle of last year, and you cant just up and move a mlb series, but someone tried it and it worked..why not go for it.

Huh? Do you mean Mike Phillips because if you do he's been there for probably at least ten years bashing the Marlins.

After Bush was replaced as sports editor and Jeff Miller was given the boot for his "most vile parasite" comment, Baxter and Spencer took over as the full time beat reporters while Phillips was exiled to write a weekly (Sunday) general sports/baseball piece. But after Baxter decided to split to LA (where he has been promsing Angels fans all season that the Marlins will be trading Miguel Cabrera like tomorrow...sheesh), Phillips went back to being a lowly beat reporter.

Roger Dean Stadium only holds 7,000. Marlins haven't drawn below 10,000 this year.

Great picture

$10 says this picture is in ESPN magazine next time. either in the front or at the back with the 0:01 clock on top left.

think anyone on the team will sign this pic. if i asked for an autograph

So do I. When was the last time you went?

tuesday

Wow, that's an awful picture.

However, I can't blame the fans. The weather sucks in South Florida at the end of the summer, and this team has been playing like crap for about a month now. There really isn't a reason to go, especially on the weekends with football.

i was at a sunday game last year after the firesale and it was like 98 degrees and it was the most boring 3 hours of my entire life, and i'm a gigantic baseball and marlins fan. besides the fact that the team was in the midst of a losing streak, the ingame entertainment was non existent.

i vowed never to go back to a day game, unless there is something there to watch.

I don't buy the weather argument. It's not like it's any cooler for 1pm Dolphins games in September, and the Dolphins somehow manage to draw more than 400 people.

Can't blame it all on the weather.
