Updated: Joe Torre Named Manager of LA Dodgers

Featured Replies

I'd love to see a repeat of the 1981 World Series, just so Torre can stick it to the Yanks.

Then again, I don't think the Yanks make the playoffs any time in the near future.

I thought for a second they were going to finally give Vin Scully a partner for Dodgers games again. Oh well, at least Joe found himself a nice team to work with.

Not a fun October for the Yankees. :lol

Yea screw you Yankees, ha, You guys dont want me, fine i'll go to L.A.

Torre- How is this screwing the Yankees again?

Yeah, seeing as your Red Sox will get the Wild Card and your Rays the division.

All the talk was about Joe Torre managing the Los Angeles Dodgers. Only problem was Grady Little was still the manager.

That's not a problem anymore. Little announced on Tuesday night that he was resigning as manager.

During a conference call, Little responded to reports of ill will between himself and Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti.

"Ned and I have been in constant communication since the end of the season and decided mutually that this was the best move for the Dodgers organization to take," Little said.

Colletti said, "I wanted Grady Little back. I encouraged him a handful of times to think it through,"

The general manager said that he knew resignation was on Little's mind at the end of the season.

When asked if rumors of Torre taking over had an influence on his decision, Little replied, "None whatsoever."

"I have my personal reasons," he said.

He added: "It's nothing in particular. It's just a decision we've come to. This is all personal. There's a lot of belief I've been dealt an injustice here. That couldn't be further from the truth. My plans? To play with my grandkids."

Little had one year remaining on his contract with a club option for a second year.

Little, the Dodgers' skipper the past two seasons, managed the Boston Red Sox in 2002-03 before being fired despite leading the team to the American League Championship Series in 2003.

It's funny how spike tries to say how much Joe Torre sucks

Making the playoffs every year he was their manager doesn't exactly say he sucks...

that and the fact that nearly all his star players threatened to go elsewhere if torre left

a fan favorite too and a manager that is widely respected throughout all of baseball

he's obviously done something right in his managing career

sticking it to NY for their insulting offer would be so great can't wait to see how LA does

I am not a Joe Torre hater either, although he is about as overrated a manger as has ever been.

He has shown consistently throughout his career that he has no idea how to manage the NL style of game. Id be surprised of LA finishes .500 or above with him at the helm.

I'm game for a 2 week ban bet that the Dodgers finish above .500 with Torre.

I think the Dodgers finish over .500 with no manager next yr, so I cant imagine Joe Torre loses enough games for them to take em under .500. If their pitching staff is healthy and they dont tank like last yr where they still finished over .500 I think they win the division, with or without Torre.
