Jose Castillo?

He's coming off a $2 million contract, he'll be in his fourth year...I really kinda doubt you'll be getting him for the league minimum or anything less than what he made last season.

And frankly why do we need him anyways? Have you looked at his career OBP?

You'd get him less than $2. Probably in the 750k range. No one is signing him to start. I'd try and sign Mike Lamb/Pedro Feliz/Corey Koskie to a 1 year deal for cheap and I'd have grabbed D'Antona in the Rule V draft. And I only say that so we can let the pitchers develop another year before sending one out to fix the new positional hole and see if Hanley's defense improves so we can see if we really need a SS versus a 3B. Then looked at this list below to fill out the last infield slot.

Backup Infielders - Jose Castillo/Pete Orr/Jorge Cantu/Alex Cintron/Tony Graffinino/Todd Walker/Jose Valentin

Take your pick. Maybe Marcus Giles stock has fallen so far the Marlins can try to rehabilitate him for nothing.

Well thought out. I didn't realize their were so many options at third base in the FA market that can potentially come cheap. Now that I think of it, why don't we give Corey Koskie a look?

Venezuelan Winter League

Caracas 9, Anzoategui 5

Indians outfielder Franklin Gutierrez homered twice and free agent Carlos Mendez added a three-run blast as the Leones downed the first-place Caribes. The Pirates' Jose Castillo had four hits, scored twice and plated a run in the winning effort. Box score.
