The win against Luongo really energized this team. Hopefully they saved some scoring power for tonight against Ottawa.

Well it was Ottawa. The point certainly would've been nice, but this team is still looking pretty fantastic.

Back on track tonight with a 6-3 win over the Bruins.

 

And with Carolina's loss today we're back to being one point behind the Hurricanes for first place in the Southeast.

This team is playing some real nice hockey right now. I can't wait for Spring Break. 3 home games while I'm in SoFla.

Zednik is badly hurt...took one of Olli's skates to the neck a couple of minutes ago during the Buffalo game. On his way to the hospital now. In stable condition.

I don't care that the Panthers lost.

 

 

God willing Zednik is alright. I am still in shock.

Very scary so much blood on the ice. Gives me shivers to think about. I hope he is okay, I read he was doing better after surgery. I wish him nothing but the best and a safe recovery

Man, that was scary as hell. I was listening on the radio and saw a clip this morning on the news. Terrible stuff, but last I heard he was doing OK.

I saw the clip on ESPN -- horrible. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Skates to the neck are terrifying injuries.

 

I still get shivers remembering Clint Malarchuck going down in 1989 when a skate slashed his carotid artery.

A Doctor that is on the sabres payroll i think who was a emergency trauma medic in vietnam. He knew to shove his finger in zednicks throat to close the wound to i believe the jugular.

 

Same guy did the same thing to Malarchuck years ago.

They just had a press conference on this and I wrote a small recap if anyone is interested...

 

There was a brief press conference from Buffalo regarding the recovery of Panthers forward Richard Zednik. Bits and pieces were grabbed from the Florida Panthers Messageboard. Here is what was said?

 

The artery was almost completely torn in half. If it was, it would of been much difficult for the doctor to locate and repair.

His blood pressure never fell, and his pulse was about normal. He is stable, able to speak, is coherent, has no other significant damage.

He will be in intensive care for another day, moved to a regular room in the next few days, and can be released once he is able to walk and keep his food down.

The total process took about an hour. Because the artery wasnt completely cut, it was put together without any foreign objects being used.

He was in shock from the blood loss.

Transfused with 5 pints of blood.

No injury to the trachea or larynx

Cut 1″ - 1 1/2″ and at least that deep

Discharge and time in Buffalo unknown

On antibiotics, can swallow and talk

No brain injury

Jugular was missed.

 

He asked the doctor when he can get back to training. He should be able to get back to the normal activities within 6-8 weeks. So unless we make the playoffs, we wont see him on the ice until next season.

 

This was a remarkable job done by the Buffalo medical staff. The Florida Panthers are taking messages from fans to relay to Richard. You can drop yours right here.

i'm pretty sure this is not true.

 

it is correct that Jim Pizzutelli saved Malarchuk's life back in 89 - but he is not employed by the Sabres anymore. he, ironically, was the Panthers trainer for a few seasons up until this one, when he was let go. the Sabres medical director Les Bisson was the one who helped Zednik. He is the same guy who helped Kevin Everett of the Bills after his severe injury.
