Olsen looked great. Great control, great selection, great tempo. I love Wiley and give him 100% of the credit.

We got some good clutch hits, some good clutch walks. It's great to see us getting 4 runs without a homer.

Gregg looked really sharp in the last inning. I think he is finally getting down to form.

Great win all around.

Another day at the top of the mountain for the Fish!

Positives

1. Scott Olsen, I think, pitched the game of his ML career. He threw like 80 pitches in 7 innings, and about 3/4 were thrown for strikes. Tremendous efficiency.

2. Kevin Gregg finally looked more like the Kevin Gregg I like to see. Good to see him getting into a groove.

3. Helms and Hanley working 2 out walks in the 8th for insurance runs. It was nice...especially Hanley. From an 0-2 count, to drawing a walk. Awesome AB's.

Negatives

1. We had many opportunites with men on base to break the game open, and there really wasn't that BIG hit to pull away. We kept the Braves in the game with so many left on base. We are batting less than .200 with .RISP, thus far this year. Lets just hope it changes, as the year goes by.

2. Freddi Gonzalez bunting with Andino...BUT...ughh...it's irrelevant now. :thumbup

PS - We're now 6-2 when I start a gamethread this year. :hat

Wow what a game by Scotty, that was some good pitching. The key was the groove he had going on, working quick, throwing strikes. He pitched the best ive ever seen of him.

The walks were awesome. And i was lol'ing when uggla came up to bat swing away lmao It was as if he was tired of the p*** s**** and said, forget walks, ima hit a granny!!

Anyways, good game fish, still in first baby!!

Fun game, i liked that Olsen worked quickly and didn't get rattled when the Braves got back to back hits in the 7th. He continued to attack the hitters and make his pitches. Working at that tempo is deffinately working and it's helping out that bullpen. Also think it was a nice boost for his confidence to do it against a team he has struggled against in the past.

Got the hits when we needed, Willingham had a good game. Marlins win!

I definitely agree with all of you guys. Scott's ability to throw strikes and work quickly was very important in the game today and I was very thrilled to see him go 7 innings. These are the type of quality starts that we need from our starters. I realize that we can't expect a scoreless seven innings every day, but it would be great if this pleasant surprise turned into something that we can expect more often. Again, I'm not saying that we should expect seven scoreless innings from our starters, but I think that our starting pitching is on the up and up.

Looking at the stats, there are definitely issues with Andrew Miller, but it looks like we can at least "look" forward to possibly count on Scotty and Mark for some quality starts along the road. Our starting pitching is obviously a work-in-progress, but I have to say that things could definitely be worse and our future is looking pretty bright.

I am looking forward to see how our starting pitching progresses as the season continues.

That top of the 6th was one of the best innings he's ever pitched. Instead of trying to throw 200 mph when he got in trouble, he actually maintained his composure and pitched. Great outing.

Agreed, this was probably the key moment in the game. I would have liked to have seen Fredi give him a chance to finish it off, but it all worked out in the end.

It's also great to see Olsen working quickly, he isn't giving himself time to overthink the game.

Pulling Scotty, putting Andino in to bunt... I was questioning that the loudest in our section. 83 pitches, 63 for strikes, and having a nice tempo going. I understand he threw 120 pitches his last outing, it was pretty chilly at the ballpark, and it is better safe than sorry when it comes to our young arms, but I would have at least left him in there to bunt and saved the bench guy for later, just in case. And it really didn't work out. Andino K'd and we didn't push a run across in that inning. I'm a Freddi backer but sometimes he has me scratching my head. Of course it's hard to argue with the final results. A win.

Lost in all this is that their youngster also pitched one heck of a game. Kept them in the game and kept the ball inside the walls. It was also nice to see our 1996 #1 draft pick back in the ball park. Obviously he still has a cannon for an arm and it is still highly respected.

Oly was on fire. Amazing performance by him. If he can finish the 7th with under 85 pitches more often he may just get a few CGs this year.

I was among those still advocating plying Treanor for Olsen, but Rabelo did a great job. Honestly, I don't know how much to attribute to Olsen on his own, how much to Wiley, and so forth, but Rabelo certainly didn't seem to have any of the problem Olivo had back there with Olsen. Just having seen what's possible, I'm quite happy with having Rabelo catch Olsen whenever possible.

What can you say about Jake & Hammer? And don't forget that nice gentle tag Jake put on Francouer.

Too bad about Hanley's streak. You could tell he was really fighting for it early in his last AB, swinging at so many bad pitches, but he did then put the team first and took the walk.

I agree on the whole Andino PH, Olsen can lay down a sac bunt, and even only playing once every 5 days, I imagine he still sac bunts more often than Andino. The only reason to put in Andino would be to swing.

That was possibly the best game Olsen has ever pitched. I think he should have been allowed to try to finish it and get a shutout vs a very tough lineup. It's one thing to pitch well agaisnt a crappy hitting team but it's something else to dominate a very tough lineup liek teh Braves have. The talk of who gets the credit is ridiculous, in my opinion. Olsen gets 90% of the credit and Wiley gets about 8% and Robelo gets maybe 2%. Also, I would bet that Olsen has more bunts in his career than Andino.

Maybe you misunderstand what I mean about credit. Clearly Olsen looks like a changed man on the mound so far this year. What I'm only saying is whatever it was that made a difference. Last year everyone seemed to think Olivo couldn't catch for Olsen and he was generally disliked on here. But one might also say that Wiley probably has them on a different routine than Kranitz did when he was blowing out everyone's arms for the last 2 years. And of course, you might just think that it was completely internal and personal and that even if Olivo was catching and Kranitz was coaching that Olsen still would've performed just the same.

Agreed. I'd have to go look up game stats to be sure, but certainly in the games I've watched him in this is as good as he's ever looked. Not concerned with blowing people away, throwing all his pitches and keeping them off balance. Almost no sign of wildness whatsoever.

The % of 1st-pitch strikes he threw were fantastic to see.

He was just fun to watch last night.
