4/22 Post Game: All About BS

Featured Replies

the real reason we lost was because we didnt hit when we had too..... Lets be honest how many runners did we leave on bases tonight?

Just got to learn from it, I hope that they really get pissed about the game, knowing they should have won, and go on a little run the rest of the road trip.

The BS call doesnt matter because that throw out on the steal was bs and cost them at least one run, so i say we are even on the umpires tonight. Yah they blew but it didnt really favor one team or the other.

Hermida pinch hit basically for the pitcher and rabelo basically hit for treanor in that situation. I think way you look at it is they wanted to put hermida up first in the inning to set the table with amezaga to follow. Get one of them on base and drive them home with Rabelo/Hanley combo. From a baseball sense its a pretty solid way of using your order. Also it ends with our best player getting to hit with the tying run on second. I dont think you can ask for more in that situation.

The problem is that Hermida should have pinch hit in the 8th for Cody Ross when we had 2 on base with 2 outs.

Would it have changed anything? Who knows, but that fact that we didn't and we left the gigantic slumping Cody out there is dumb.

why would he pinch hit for cody in the 8th. cody is a better hitter and its not guarenteed that jeremy gets a hit and hes a bad fielder. he wanted to save jeremy for the 9th with the bottom of the order coming up

Cody is not even close to the hitter than Hermida is. You do realize Cody is hitting .176, right? Before his lucky hit yesterday, which was cause by bad fielding, he hadn't gotten a hit since the series against Houston.

You do realize that we're in April, right?

Last I checked, Cody Ross was awesome against lefties last year. Better than Hermida (much better sample size too).

And Hermida wasn't exactly tearing the cover off the ball to begin with either.

You seem to have the same problem with Helms...in case you hadn't noticed...12 at bats is not a good sample size to judge your opinion off of. Helms is still a better hitter than Rabelo. It's always been that way.

As for the bunting theory, I already explained this one, as many other people have...so it's useless explaining it again.

It's pretty obvious we have different styles on how to manage. :thumbup

Nolasco should have been taken out in the 6th when it was obvious that he was running out of gas.

As for the bunt....if Hermida scores it was a good move, since he didn't we criticize the decision.

It hurts to lose by one run . But we've done OK so far this year. We are now 5-1 in one run games.

At least the Braves and the Mutts also lost today.

if your going by recent history than how is jeremy doing recently

The fact that you wanted 2-12 slumping Helms to pinch hit instead of Rabelo shows that you don't know much about baseball either.

Helms did win the game Saturday night with a hit...

gotta love the hate for tosca...i mean bench coaches are crucial to a team's overall sucess...and for the record...he was fired by the blue jays because the blue jays couldnt compete with the wild spending yanks and sawx...

Pretty sure John Gibbons is next. :thumbup

But the problem is that Cody is slumping worse than any player on our team. April or not, I know you understand a slump. And Cody is slumping something bad. Hermida isn't doing great, but much better than Cody.

I'm rolling the same with Helms. He has obviously not been seeing well, and is still getting into the hitting mood. The risk of putting a cold hitter who is still getting acclimated is way too high. Sure, we are lucky he ran into one on Saturday, I was just as happy as the rest of us, but his bat is till cold.

Tough loss. We will bounce back. I see the name calling hasn't stopped around here. Why do you guys call each other idiots in a post game thread? Learn to disagree with class :)

Yeah, horrible loss.

For the record, the only person I called an idiot was Carlos Tosca.

Also, where have you been Jon? I miss having you around here!

Work has completely taken over my life. In fact I am posting from my hotel room in Anaheim watching the game on MLB.tv.

I'll try to come around a little more, I miss your cool in game pictures.

The play at first was ridiculous, Hanley was safe by a few feet. Reminded me of the play in the Atlanta game the other night, ump Dan Iassogna completely blew a call at first, even worse.

Cant really rail on the bunt even though I would have let him hit away (Hes not gettign doubled up so at worst you have 1 out runner on first)......but Rabelo.....How dumb is Tosca.....If you are Fredi's right man you you are an idiot .......Didnt Tosca do idiotic things last year also

Its going to be tough either way after losing a one run game, because its a whole bunch of coulda, woulda, shoulda.............

I mean honestly the only thing I was sorta upset about was Freddi starting treanor and cody in the same lineup. When in reality i should just be upset that treanor and cody didnt get that lasik that hendrickson got done, because neither of them can hit the blindside of a barn lately....

No I'm not. Hermida, outside of Gonzo who already batted, has been hitting better than anyone on the bench tonight, and has been hitting better than Cody.

Don't compare Hermida at .240 to Helms at .180.

Hermida was the best option, which is why he batter to start the inning. But he should have batted in place of Cody and his .180 average.

We have to move on.

We're 12-8, 5-1 now in 1 run games. Good for a young team.

We have 2 tougher teams coming up in the Braves (who are playing better), and the Brew-Crew.

We need Miller to show flashes of his true potential tomorrow.

Who's creating the gamethread?

helms has had 12 at bats and didnt even have a big spring training. an if you keep using your logic then you wouldnt want a cold bat coming off the bech. this is just you obviously not liking helms

As for the bunt....if Hermida scores it was a good move, since he didn't we criticize the decision.

If you go into the game thread, you'll see that a few of us criticized it as soon as we saw that Amezaga was bunting.

Many of us just feel it is a bad move in that situation.

I like Helms very much and you can see that I was in agreement with him being picked up.

Helms bat is just the coldest on the bench. You said it yourself, he only had 12 ABs, a short ST, and didn't play at all in Philly. Jeremy is bating better than Cody, who's bat is cold as Ice. Rabelo's BA is actually slightly higher than Hermida's, and much higher tahn Helms, Cody, or Treanors. But I wouldn't count on him to do better than Jeremy, who's OPS is much better than Robos.

So, basically you want to play for the bottom of the 9th before its even guaranteed? That makes no sense. You play to get to the bottom of the 9th, and figure everything out then once you?ve done everything you could to get there.

gotta love the hate for tosca...i mean bench coaches are crucial to a team's overall sucess...and for the record...he was fired by the blue jays because the blue jays couldnt compete with the wild spending yanks and sawx...

The fact is he was in charged tonight and f***ed up. Also, this is a trend going back to last year. He's done something stupid every time he's had the opportunity to do so. Glad I am not Blue Jay's fan that must have been brutal.

Also, remember Helms was rusty from not playing when he first came here. He's had his swing back the last few games.

One final thought. A good move is a good move regardless of the result. If Rabelo homers, it was still a stupid move. If Helms struck out, it was still the right move. Hell, pitching to Hanley was a dumb move, but it worked out. Still does not mean it was right.

Jeremy Hermida is a career .262 hitter against lefties (batting .200 this year).

He came into tonight batting .234, with an .OBP of .280.

Cody Ross since joining the Marlins (lets say the last 3 years)...is a .301 hitter against lefties with a 1.008 .OPS.

Now obviously Cody Ross has been struggling...but so has Jeremy Hermida.

If you never send Ross up there, how is he gonna snap out of it? And career #'s + matchups show that the right man hitting in the 8th inning was Cody Ross. The only way Hermida is hitting in that situation is if he's hitting the ball well (and if that was the case, he would've started tonight).

Just thought I'd add this.

you are contradicting yourself. just stop. if yoiu dont want helms up there because his bat is cold then why woul you want hermida with a cold bat 2.

you do know that we are 20 games into the season and batting averages dont mean anything until at least mid may. helms had a hit last time he was at bat and has gotten back to where he should be during the regular season.

I'm not one of them. I've defended bunting before on here. I was against everyone asking for Uggla bunting though, and he proved me right the next day with his inability to bunt.

What I don't believe in is throwing away outs in the 9th inning on the road.

You tell me about small sample sizes of BAs and then say Helms is back where he should be because he got 1 hit...

Great.

When the disparity in the averages are this huge, by almost 70 points, it is enough to tell you who has been hitting better.
