June 11, 200818 yr Needs to end. This guy seems to have had an adequate opportunity to get the bat going, and at this point he's just taking playing time away from Cody Ross. It was a good idea, but the way Ross has been mashing there's no need for this Jacque Jones tryout to continue. Thoughts?
June 11, 200818 yr He's been useless so far. At least draw walks or try to get on base.. somehow. Jeez.
June 11, 200818 yr Never liked the pickup... he can play on the bench, and provide experience, but to have him platooning, the way Cody Ross has hit ever since becoming a Marlin, is inexcusable.
June 11, 200818 yr I say he stays on the team, but comes off the bench untill he can get somethin going. remember at the beginning of the year, cody ross wasn't batting good either but he picked it up. Jones can do the samething but needs his chance.

Jones can do the samething but needs his chance. the only difference is that Cody Ross didn't have a Spring Training this year, and Cody Ross hit the ball really well last year. I always wanted Cody to get more playing time, even in April. While Jacque Jones is not THIS BAD, I don't think he's starting material anymore. If anything, Jones could probably play some more LF, b/c at age 40, Gonzo needs a rest once in awhile, imo.
June 11, 200818 yr Ride Cody as long as you can, if he's crushing the ball like this for the time being Jones is in for some pine time. I still think Jones gives the Fish a good option in the OF for days off and off the bench, I'm not in favor if pulling the plug on this one yet.

June 11, 200818 yr They need to throw him away like the would an old "Jacque" strap. Garbage . I'm sorry, this is still one of my favorite lines
June 11, 200818 yr He'll come around. It's not like he's Jorge Julio. Plus, it's not like we have a huge surplus of outfielders on this team.
June 11, 200818 yr Freddi disagree with most of you: MIAMI -- If you just take a look at his stat line, it would seem like Jacque Jones hasn't done well since being acquired by the Marlins. Since signing with Florida on May 23, the 33-year-old outfielder is hitting at just a .107 clip (3-for-28) with two RBIs and no extra-base hits. But watching the games and seeing how hard Jones has been hitting the ball, you can tell the left-handed hitter is just running into some bad luck. "I know a lot of people talk about, 'Oh, he's hitting a hard .150,'" manager Fredi Gonzalez said, "but he's literally hit that -- a hard [.107]." Jones was in the starting lineup on Saturday, filling in to give Jeremy Hermida a rest. Jones was in right field and hit in Hermida's usual No. 2 spot, while Cody Ross manned center field and hit seventh. Gonzalez doesn't like tinkering with the lineup, but since the Marlins were facing right-hander Bronson Arroyo, Jones' left-handed bat was an asset. "Keep swinging -- keep putting him in the lineup," Gonzalez said about his approach to dealing with a batter who has run into a stretch of bad luck. "You just keep putting him in there. Literally, wherever he's hitting the ball, it's been hit hard. He's been hitting the ball hard the whole time he's been here. "Guys that have been around enough time, they'll eventually hit."
June 11, 200818 yr The signing made alot of sense when it was first made because of the struggles with Cody and Amezega. I'd give him another 20 AB's or so to see if he can snap out of it and get his average up above .200 If he can't break out of it, either AAA or DFA.
June 11, 200818 yr I did not like the Jones acquisition, but frankly I find the move to dump him kind of silly.

I'm not a Jacque Jones hater, but I'm not sure that he will come around. He hasn't been able to hit anything but ground balls for two seasons, hence his lack of power numbers this year and last. I'm not holding my breath.

I didn't mind the signing. And I tried to stick with him because he was hitting the ball hard, just right at people. But now?? My best guess is when Hammer comes back they DFA him. But not until then.
June 11, 200818 yr He was a smart stopgap considering the absence of Willingham who last year turned it on after a slow start. My guess is he lasts until Hammer returns and gets DFA'd or moved, probably the former. It was a no risk move that made sense based on 2007 and his defensive abilities. You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.
June 11, 200818 yr Thais is what Beinfest has done repeatedly since '06 does. He takes guys off the scrap heap and sees what they can do. Almost all of them stink and they're let go. But every now and then you'll get an Uggla or a Cody. With that said, I wish this experiment would come to an end.
June 11, 200818 yr Honestly, was does cutting him accomplish? He is a big league talent. He'll get it together.

June 11, 200818 yr I'd rather send down Hopper or Logan French Kensing at that point. I can't imagin carrying 13 pitchers for too much longer.
