June 24, 200818 yr what the hell are they waiting for!!!! why not john baker!!! i just dont get it....either way i think rabelo needed to go down and work on hi game.
June 24, 200818 yr That will be a blow to the best announcer in baseball, Rich, after saying the team is solid behind the plate.
June 24, 200818 yr Every chance the Marlins have had they've chosen Hoover over Baker. As much as there seems to be this crush on Baker here obviously player personnel people feel Hoover is the better and more major league capable of the two. Personally, I can't think of anything Hoover has done since he was called up last Sept (or in spring training) that was in disagreement with the front office's decision. He's hit well the few times he's been with the parent club, played good defensive ball when asked. The sample size is so ridiculously small it's impossible to tell but I'm certainly willing to give the guy a good and fair look. Rabelo needs to get his head screwed on straight ala Taylor Tankersley and a few games or weeks in AAA may be just what's needed. In the meantime, Hoover will do just fine.

Yeah, the guy has never had more than like 17 ABs in in a season, and for the most part, it's been a well played stint...
June 24, 200818 yr Wow, thats surprising... I really didnt see this coming. Was there a specific reason besides the underwhelming play?
June 24, 200818 yr Some good news!!! Something had to be done about Rabelo after the Oakland series... Now if only something could happen so Hendrickson doesn't pitch on my birthday this week....
June 24, 200818 yr Wow, I actually called this over the weekend! While Baker does have the upside of the two, I like Paul now, and he was already on the 40-man roster, so it made sense. I saw him a lot back in 2000-2001 when he was w/ the Rays' AA team here in Orlando, and he always had the makings of being a solid major-league catcher. He just never got the chance (if you look at his transaction history, he's been signed and released by the Marlins and rays at least twice, each!). He had a great end of spring filling in for both Traenor and Rabello, and looked to continue the hot start in his first two games of the regular season. I just couldn't understand why they brought Rabelo up right away instead of getting some more extend ST time once he came off the DL, then send Paul down. Just to justify The Trade. In my post a couple of days ago, I expressed my only concern about this (at the time potential) move was that we will now have two essentially back-up, right-handed hitting catchers platooning. The one thing Rabelo had going for him was he was a switch hitter.

June 24, 200818 yr This move is a total wash... Nah, Hoover knows the difference between a force-out and a tag-out.
June 24, 200818 yr Hoover brings nothing to the team, why not just give Baker a chance. It's not like Hoover is going to start every other day. If the Fish can call up Jai Miller, I think we they can call up Baker.
