July 23, 200817 yr I think we will pass on the catchers and the only pitcher I see us possibly getting is Marte from Pittsburgh and I think that it's 50/50 that we get him now.

July 23, 200817 yr A team source said the Rockies have asked for Rays Double-A starter Wade Hendrickson, the Yankees' Ian Kennedy, the Red Sox's Clay Buchholz or Mets minor-leaguer Jon Niese. Florida is monitoring Fuentes but is reluctant to part with a young starter. The price for Fuentes has left teams taking a longer look at Oakland's Huston Street. From WEEI and BP this is good for the Marlins I GUESS ... They are one of 5 teams in the hunt for both Street and Fuentes. Also, the Pirates have also said that the Marlins are one of the 12 teams looking at Nady and/or Marte

The braves are probably goign to be selling around the deadline, and their two key pieces are mike gonzalez and mark texiera. trading both together will help atlanta recoup some of the prospects they lost getting tex to begin with. Why doesnt florida pick up the phone and hit up Atlantas GM. Jacobs, and 3 minor leaguers for Tex and Gonzalez would work for both teams. ATL gets a ML 1b and 3 minorleaguers for a guy who will walk at the end of the year and a reliever. FLA gets a upgrade at 1b for the stretch run defensively and a push at offense. Plus a reliever. No to mention, when Texiera walks, we get 2 1st rounders because he's a restricted free agent. (i believe).

They are willing to part with Will Ohman though. 2. Teixiera will demand some nice prospects back. You can expect Volstad to be one of the guys the Braves would be asking for. No thanks. Especially for Teixiera who will get money he probably doesn't deserve after these next 2 months.

July 24, 200817 yr I think the court ruling on the stadium "may" put a different face on things at the trade deadline. It could go either way. 1) Without a guarantee of a new stadium and mounting legal costs and more on the horizon+the Marlins decide not to spend extra $$$ (more expensive contracts) at the deadline, or 2) they decide the PR value of being in the playoffs before a potential referendum vote in November is dramatic and they go balls to the wall and make a run at the big prize.
