Trade Rumors

Featured Replies

I rather keep McPherson and send off Jacobs, but it looks like (form rumors) there isn't a lot of room up here for him... So hopefully we get something good for him.

I hope we get the relief pitching, but not a Volstad type guy for Fuentes. PLEASE NO!

This is hilarious...

Bay: The Pirates are asking for four players back -- two sure-thing young players, one good prospect and a fourth prospect with upside.

Nady: A similar package, except they want three players instead of four -- one sure thing, one good prospect and a third, more iffy, prospect.

Marte: The Pirates seem confident he'll be a Type A free agent, so they're telling teams they need to do better than the first-round pick and sandwich pick they'd get if he walks.

Grabow: Because Grabow can't be a free agent until after next season, the Pirates are looking for a similar package on him as they're asking on Marte.

Wilson: One rumor -- heavily denied -- is that they asked the Dodgers for Matt Kemp and/or Chad Billingsley for Wilson. But everyone agrees they want two or three players, depending on who they are, all of whom have to be big-league ready.

The Pirates are free to ask for whatever they want, obviously. But many teams find it tough to stomach the rationale behind placing that kind of price sticker on somebody like Marte.

"It may be true that Marte will wind up being a Type A," says an official of one club. "But isn't it possible that because he's a Type A, no one is going to want to sign him? Is a team really going to want to give up a first-round pick for Damaso Marte? I think that answer may be no. So I don't know if it's as reasonable to ask what they're asking for him as they think it is."

At this point I rather not make any deals.

George Sherrill Rumors

4:50pm: The Baltimore Sun lists the Cardinals, Brewers, Dodgers, Cubs, Reds, Phillies, Marlins, and Tigers as teams represented at yesterday's Orioles-Blue Jays tilt. The article implies that those clubs were there hoping to scout Sherrill, though a few might have been eyeing A.J. Burnett or both pitchers.

Jeff Zrebiec says the O's want two or three prospects for Sherrill, who is under team control for a long time.

2:16pm: According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the Brewers are not engaged in trade talks for Orioles closer George Sherrill. The O's are looking for a shortstop, and the Brewers aren't willing to part with J.J. Hardy or Alcides Escobar. Makes more sense to wait until Escobar forces their hand, anyway.

GM Doug Melvin told Haudricourt he doesn't expect to add a reliever this month.

Maybe we could give them Andindo. :whistle

The closer you get to the deadline, the price will fall. I don't blame the Pirates for asking for the moon right now, afterall it only takes one sucker to pull the trigger and make a stupid trade. I'm guessing they'll start being more reasonable next week.

Now that the Orioles are on a slide, I assume the marlins will charge in and get him for Jacobs and a minor prospect, that would be a great trade for us.

That would be an amazing pick up, I hope they lose the next series too to really make the deal easy for them to move. Luckily Bedard isn't having a great year so its not a major lose for them.

Guys please stop mentioning Sherrill because for one he is overrated and two he will cost us alot more than Fuentes, think Morrison, Coughlan, and Andino or something like that.

Trade winds

Scouts from the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers, the two most aggressive suitors for Orioles closer George Sherrill, attended last night's game. The Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, Florida Marlins and Detroit Tigers were also among the teams represented.

With second baseman Brian Roberts unlikely to be traded during the season, Sherrill has become the club's biggest trade chip, attracting inquiries from nearly 10 teams. A source with knowledge of the Orioles' thinking said the club is looking for two, if not three prospects in return for the reliever. If Sherrill, 31, is traded, it will likely be just before the July31 nonwaiver trade deadline.

Cox knows that the braves are done.

Fredi worked for Bobby.

Cox knows he can get some prospects back.

Look at their pitchers...Glavine (Old) Smoltz (most likely done) Hampton (if he ever gets back he wont be around long)

I am a lifelong Braves fan. I am here because of Dallas (Trahern)

I could see a scenario where the Braves trade Mark Tex for a few prospects. There is no reason Cox couldnt go back out and get Tex next year in the free agent market.

Ontop of what the guy said about Marte, I would think he would accept arbitration if it was offered to him, so not only would you not get the two draft picks, you'd be stuck paying him a huge arbitration amount.

The division rival Marlins are after Rhodes, as well as Gregg Zaun.

Knobler heard that the Marlins might consider Baltimore catcher Ramon Hernandez.

Just a couple more mentions of the Fish.

Jayson Stark's chat: http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=21639

Moses (Miami): Are the Marlins going to make any moves (buying or selling)

Jayson Stark: They're buying all the way. But I'm hearing the only position they're looking at right now is bullpen. They've been all over Brian Fuentes and George Sherrill. I'm dubious that Sherrill will get traded. But I wouldn't bet against the Marlins in the Fuentes sweepstakes. I think there's a potential match there. And those two teams have been swapping names -- which seems to indicate they're at a different level than some of the other clubs in on Fuentes.

MLB Trade Rumors: Friday Round-Up

by faketeams on Jul 25, 2008 11:30 AM EDT in Baseball

Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus posted a Rumor Mill yesterday afternoon with some excellent follow-uyp to many of the rumors that have been posted here at Fake Teams, been mentioned in the local papers and floated in the internets for days. With BP offering free access to all visitors through Sunday the 27th, I highly recommend reading this.

He explains why the Oakland A's are showing-up everyhwere, and it is not because they have dealt 3/5s of their starting rotation in the past year. He also reports why the Atlanta Braves may not be the easiest teams to tell with over the next six days. Actually, he reported the asking price for Mike Gonzalez. I added one to come-up with the rest.

Here are additional trade-rumor-related info from around the internet including info on the New York Yankees view of the catcher market and the Florida Marlins on Mike Jacobs amongst other rumors. If Jacobs is dealt, it is because of Gaby Sanchez. Look at the OPS, SBs and BB:K!
