Fredi Gonzalez says Cameron Maybin is likely to be called up Sept. 1

I would assume leadoff and hanley to the 3. If he struggles at all probably in the 7 spot if they still want to give him at bats.

Where will he figure into getting playing time? Will he take starts away from Cody. Also will he hit leadoff, moving Hanley to the 3 hole.

imo there is absolutely no chance that hanley would be moved from 1st to 3rd when the calendar changes to september

if hanley is destined to be a #3 hitter, then i think the best way to do it would be to play him there from the beginning of a season

Maybin probably wouldn't even start.

I think that depends on how Willingham/Gonzo do for the next 18 days.

If that stays a hole, don't be surprised to see a Ross-Maybin-Hermida outfield.

Not that I want Hanley to bat 3 or Cameron leadoff, but what is your reasoning here? How does moving a guy around in the lineup compare to a change like moving a pitcher from reliever to starter? You're telling me if the best move for for the ballclub would be to move Hanley to 3 and Cameron to 1, we shouldn't do it? Why?

Note I just don't get the reasoning at all, I'm not asking for a lineup change there.

dreams do come true

I don't see how Maybin deserves a callup so soon.

He's had an inconsistent year in AA, and has struggled with K's. How would that translate to the big leagues?

I don't see him starting.

If he comes, I'd say he'd be a defensive replacement / pinch-runner / pinch-hitter (a.k.a bench player).

I'd rather see Raynor in September...despite the fact, Maybin is the future.

well havent we tried moving hanley to the 3 spot 2 or 3 times before in the middle of the year, and it never worked

im all for shaking things up in the lineup if that is what is required, other than hanley who seems to excel hitting leadoff as compared to batting third

Provided that Maybin is good, that looks sweet.

up to 40 players are allowed which adds 15 to the original 25

No team actually adds 15, to get to a sum of 40. That's just rare.

The Marlins probably call up about 5.

Maybin is hitting .276/.368/.466 in AA, .375/.449/.500 since the break. His only bad months were April, which was bad start, and July, when he was injured and only had 22 AB.

Strikeouts regardless, his K/BB is 2/1.

THAT is why he deserves a callup.

THAT is why he deserves a callup.

First off, he's batting .357 since the break.

Second, he's done this in 42 at bats. 42 at bats in AA isn't a great sample size to show me he's worthy of a callup.

He's also only had ONE very good month.

April - .738 .OPS

May - .781 .OPS (not bad...but it's AA pitching; ML pitching is a little different, I'd say).

June - .974 .OPS

July - a horrendus .573 .OPS (he was hurt, though)

August - 1.006 .OPS (in 36 AB's...again, not a great sample).

That's not GREAT consistency.

John Raynor, on the other hand, has 43 SB's.

Has been a bit more consistent, as well.

Raynor has also hit well post All-Star break.

.341/.385/.489 . . . more than doubling Maybin's 2nd half sample size in terms of AB's.

Only 25 can dress out though, correct?

No, they all can and are all eligible to play in a game.

Cameron has been playing really good lately since coming off the DL. I say you give him sparatic starts, and if he does good off the bench, maybe put him in the regular lineup. We need players up here who are gonna get us to the playoffs, if Maybin doesn't contribute, just wait til' next year to get him at-bats.
