Fredi Gonzalez says Cameron Maybin is likely to be called up Sept. 1

Featured Replies

Im with Erick in bringing up John Raynor. Maybing just isnt ready. Mcpherson should also get called up and dont be suprised to see Gaby sanchez called up.

I can't see Maybin getting alot of PT unless other people struggle or we are out of the hunt for a playoff spot. Maybe down in the order but certainly not in the leadoff spot. He is just not ready and we need to win now.

up to 40 players are allowed which adds 15 to the original 25

No team actually adds 15, to get to a sum of 40. That's just rare.

The Marlins probably call up about 5.

Only 25 can dress out though, correct?

No, they all can and are all eligible to play in a game.

rab finally has my back on a stat

this is a special momnet cmon i promised my papi i wouldnt cry..

It's kind of a moot point to argue bringing up Raynor against Maybin.

Maybin is already on the 40 man roster because of DET. Ever since getting called down in AA, his chance of getting called up in at worst September was 99.99...%, and this just makes it 100%.

Raynor is not on the 40 man roster. In order for him to be called up, a move has to be made.

Hoover is the only sure-fire DFA candidate, which only opens up one spot.

Ah, thanks.

Y'see, I'm not an expert with the contract issues, etc. I know what's going on with most, but not all.

Although, I must say...I really don't see the point of having Paul Hoover. The guy is useless everytime he's given a shot with the big club. And we just signed Lo Duca, not so long ago for the purpose of having him up in September, at the very least, as a 3rd catcher, for versatility.

Well, Hoover's spot would be LoDuca's, no?

Yeah. As I said, there's no point in having Hoover. Unless if you mean this like Hoover's spot is Lo Duca's in AAA. But we have Rabelo, no? Or is Rabelo still injured?

No, I mean when Hoover gets DFA, that roster spot would go to LoDuca.

Oh, my bad. Nvm.

Other DFA candidates are

Jai Miller (DFAing a 23 year old in AAA = ehhh. If he can ever figure out how to hit for average he'll be nice, given his eye. And if he passes through waivers, he'll then be open to the rule V again)

Scott Nestor (control problems but he's a fireballer so I doubt it happens, and again another guy that'd be open to rule V)

I don't know if we DFA any of them though. We have a lot of rule V guys eligible next year we gotta protect, but you're looking at 4 guys who are gonna leave through FA, several guys who could be traded, and a few non tender candidates, so we'll have 40 man room this offseason to protect guys.

Maybin may have had an inconsistent year but his only problem seems to have been fixed (which is reading the breaking pitch). I went to see him in Jacksonville and he hit a 500+ foot bomb. From seeing him play I think he is as close to Major League ready as ever right now.

We need something and we need it now. If its Maybin, then its Maybin. If its anyone else, then its anyone else. Yes, this makes sense.
