Volstad

Featured Replies

In his first 71.2 innings as a Marlins rookie, Josh Beckett owned a 3.41 ERA. In his first 73.1 innings, the 21-year-old Volstad has a 3.07 ERA.

OMG VOLSTAD IZ GNNA WIN WS MVP!!!!!!!

Let's wait a little 'till we make a comparison like that, but it's obvious Volstad has a bright future.

I wasn't comparing them. I threw out a stat.

odd comparison, considering Volstad is a ground ball pitcher and Beckett is a strikeout pitcher. I like what Volstad has, and is the future #2 of this staff behind JJ, and no offense, but this is a dumb comparison. Volstad is a one in a kind player, and he will make his own indent in the league, something that even the great Josh Beckett has not done. He will make his own memorable mark

ummm, next time name the thread "Volstad's ERA" not "Volstad vs Beckett" that kind of title lets us assume that this was supposed to compare the two pitchers

pretty much, now we can just concentrate on praising VolSTUD without having to mention that "other" pitcher wit the blister issues

I dunno wot Beckett's numbers are on this, but Volstad has an incredible HR/9 innings pitched in the majors.

That's actually one of Beckett's weaknesses he give up his fair share of home runs per year.

He had a year we he gave up something like 35 HRs...

Not exactly a good comparison between 1AB and 70+ innings of work.

Volstad has shown consistency against an array of teams with different styles, which bodes well for the future.

And for the record, Volstad recorded a ground ball out on 1 pitch, in his first ever AB pitched in the majors.

You're comparing one AB to 70+ innings?

hahaha, you cant be serious. That was one at bat, this is 70+ innings of work. teams have had enough time watching him play and still cant figure him out. This dude is the real deal, and an ace!

Beckett, outside the WS, wasn't particularly great for the Fish. Good, not great.

Not true.

The NLCS too :mischief

Make that the entire playoffs in 2003.

Beckett actually had some really good years w/ the fish

Ah, nevermind. Beckett>Brown.

Also, for the record, Volstad has the 2nd best ERA of any rookie in Marlins history.

#1 is Anibal in 2006 and #3 is Livan in 1997.

He just looks so polished.

I'm soooo looking forward to next year already, with a full season of these guys on the mound. Nolasco-JJ-Volstad have been fantastic. If Miller progresses next year, or Sanchez improves, or any of our other young arms are able to make the jump, the sky's the limit for our rotation.

I dunno wot Beckett's numbers are on this, but Volstad has an incredible HR/9 innings pitched in the majors.

This is something that we can continually expect out of Volstad, and one of the reasons his high WHIP isn't that concerning.

Agree and his 3.10 era very good with a so-so 5-4 record. Last game 5 inns and 2 ER and gets the loss and Johnson last game 5 inns and 5 ER and gets the win. W-L records dont mean much

way to jinx him. If you hadent mentioned this utley would have never hit that homer. And I was sure Maybin with his spider powers would catch it.
