November 11, 200817 yr The addition of Bonifacio will enable the team to move Dan Uggla to third base. - KEN ROSENTHAL I am getting VERY scared.
November 11, 200817 yr This trade makes no sense. And why would they move Uggla to third? We already have Cantu there.
November 11, 200817 yr The addition of Bonifacio will enable the team to move Dan Uggla to third base. - KEN ROSENTHAL I am getting VERY scared. This is good. Now the Marlins can move Dan Uggla for a Jonathan Sanchez instead of a Matt Cain
November 11, 200817 yr So, what's going on Chris Coghlan? Uggla, Bonafacio and Coghlan... I'm just confused.
November 11, 200817 yr This trade makes no sense. And why would they move Uggla to third? We already have Cantu there. My sentiments exactly. Is our IF gonna be Ugg/Hanram/Emilio/Gaby..........uggh what a downgrade. I guess DMac, Alfie, Gregg all shipped out, too. But, honestly guys, I'm excited to resign Treanor. He's clearly poised for a breakout year.
November 11, 200817 yr Why do we always trade to NL East teams? Why do we always trade fan favorites and they expect people to show up to the games? :banghead I AM SO PISSED RIGHT NOW
November 11, 200817 yr Even with this trade, we should still be favored to win the division next year. But this trade still doesnt make any sense
November 11, 200817 yr P.J. Dean better be the incarnation of Josh Beckett this has got to be the worst trade I could have imagined ... well, I guess that we are going from a "surprisingly fun" offseason to a very long one Ok, I'm pissed too. But let's not forget - we only traded Olsen and Willingham - you don't get a Beckett for those two guys. But............you do get a Max Ramirez or at least a hell of a lot more than this. you could have gotten that same value for only one of those players ... and yet we get to lose 2 starters in the deal, one that went out there EVERY 5th day and at least tried to do his job and the other one who when healthy could put up respectable numbers within the league's avg. I'm imagining that it was the first offer thrown out there and the front office just happened to take it ... I really can't think that there was much thought put into this trade at all on the marlins behalf.

I CANNOT believe that... not even for a second... no way Olsen is publicly available and this happens like this...
November 11, 200817 yr BREAKING NEWS! It was reported that Emilio Bonifacio failed a physical and the trade has fell through! Source: ESPN (Emilio Sucks Please No!!!!)
November 11, 200817 yr Even with this trade, we should still be favored to win the division next year. But this trade still doesnt make any sense what!!>?!?!?!
November 11, 200817 yr OMFG!! MLB reported the trade... this is TRUE!! I will go hang myself now..good by cruel world. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...8&fext=.jsp
November 11, 200817 yr MLB REPORTING NO SMOLINSKI Florida is sending left-hander Scott Olsen and left fielder Josh Willingham to the Nationals for second baseman Emilio Bonifacio and Minor League pitcher P.J. Dean. Other reports have 19-year-old middle infielder Jake Smolinksi added to the deal. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...8&fext=.jsp
November 11, 200817 yr To whoever wrote something about Coghlan, the server crashed with my response. Coghlan has to still be the longterm 2B. It's not even close with him and Emilio. Emilio is cool, but probably only in an Amezaga kind of way. Those two, and Hanley, can all live together and form a happy middle infield family whenever Uggla and Amezaga get traded. --- And I'm not upset that we traded Olsen and Willingham. I'm only upset with the return.
November 11, 200817 yr This is just the beginning of another firesale by the Marlins. This trade is really disgusting because 1) They traded Olsen and Willingham to a team they will have to play a lot next season 2) Bonifacio is going to replace Uggla at 2B 3) If Cantu gets a big raise he will be gone and Dallas McPherson will be the starting 3B. When does this garbage stop?
November 11, 200817 yr Here it is, the dagger http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...8&fext=.jsp Ok, now I might change my dinner plans to the Japanese buffet so I can eat myself into oblivion or something. To be fair, we have adequate replacements for these two. But, it feels like we were so robbed. And the Nationals gain was much larger than our loss. They insert one everyday starter and a top-of-the-rotation guy immediately (we lose one of our 6 SP and our 4th OF).........but, so sick On second thought, maybe I'm not hungry at all. On third thought, mmmmmmmmmmmm...........sushi.
November 11, 200817 yr WE GET: 1. Defensively-strong, Fast-baserunning, 2B prospect who tore up AA and AAA, was traded for Rauch 2. 19 year-old pitcher, sick numbers at "A-" ball 3. 20 year-old hitter, second round pick, coming off knee injury, okay numbers at "A" ball WE GIVE: 1. lefty, innings eater, coming off good year, two years ago was terrible 2. patient hitter, good OBP, solid on defense, unathletic, approaching 30, major back issues I'm choosing to blindly trust Beinfest/Hill. Even though this isn't necessarily making a whole lot of sense. Bonifacio better be amazing.
November 11, 200817 yr MLB reported it is a four player trade but they have only announced three players. WHO is the the fourth!? On Monday, they reached agreement with the Nationals on a four-player trade that is expected to be announced on Tuesday, according to an industry source. Neither team has confirmed the trade.

When does this garbage stop? That's really not a problem. We can trade ONE of Cantu and Uggla and still have a more than adequate offense. Something like No Cantu C - Baker 1B - G. Sanchez / McPherson 2B - Uggla / Bonificio SS - Hanley 3B - McPherson / Uggla LF - Ross CF - Maybin RF - Hermida B - Bonificio, Helms, Backup Catcher, Backup Outfielder, and there is another spot left for who knows what. Really versatile team. No Uggla C - Baker 1B - G. Sanchez / McPherson 2B - Coghlan / Bonificio SS - Hanley 3B - Cantu / McPherson LF - Ross CF - Maybin RF - Hermida B - McPherson, Bonificio, Helms, Backup Catcher, Backup Outfielder Neither of these are bad situations. I'd even imagine having a very similar offensive potential to this season. Our kids can play. We absolutely need a strong 4th OF now. And I'm not talking about John Raynor. That has jumped to a top priority because of Hammer. --- However I do agree with you, just the reasoning. The problem is the RETURN. If it's just Emilio, Smolenski, and Beam, that is basically trading Olsen for the first two (which seems a little low even if Smokenski is a pretty good prospect. You'd want something more advanced for 200 IP), and Willingham for a throw in A pitcher. That is trash. We can survive without them on the field, but you'd EXPECT to get a better package back in return. That's the sad part to me.
