December 11, 200817 yr It looks like the Red Sox have stepped in and are determined to make it happen. The final details are being worked out but the money is already been agreed upon. The Red Sox are certain that Teixera is the perfect player for the middle of their lineup Makes perfect sense to me he can play 1st and 3rd base, complementing Youkoulis well. He is the sluggar that replaces Manny. Big Papi needed that for sure. Teixeira will be one rich motherf...!

It is basically coming down to Lowell or Ortiz. The banter is still keep Lowell for a year or two basically and move Ortiz for some future players at either 3B/1B depending on where Youk and Tex end up. IDK if it is a good move, but considering how Epstein does things it is not that surprising of a move really.
December 11, 200817 yr The Red Sox might not be so close to the deal... the word is Teixeira wants an opt-out close and the red sox do not do them. The whole front office is standing by that so if that is the make or break he most likely will end up in Baltimore/Washington
December 11, 200817 yr I see that Washington is offering 8 years for $160 mil, while Baltimore is slightly behind with 7 years $150 mil.
December 11, 200817 yr You guys really ought to learn to link your info. You can't just take credit for that stuff without mentioning sources, plus I don't know how much that is being said is just speculation or otherwise.

I agree with the wrist problems and bad season last year if they can get something it would a good move. They are reporting later in the day on WEEI that they are getting a lot of offers for Lowell so he will probably move.
December 11, 200817 yr If the Sox feel like they can get something decent for Ortiz, I would move him if they were confident that they could sign Tex.
December 11, 200817 yr If the Sox feel like they can get something decent for Ortiz, I would move him if they were confident that they could sign Tex. It would make more sense to have Tex DH, Youk at First and Lowell at third for two years. Then they can move Jed Lowrie over to third, a more natural position for him, and hope in the Ortiz deal to get a prospect SS+whatever. Or they can resign Cabrera.

Certainly Tex comes close to making up for losing ManRam. Plus they still have Jason Bay.
December 22, 200817 yr Update 12/21 A few days ago we saw the Red Sox 'supposedly' drop out of the Teixeira sweepstakes. As owner John Henry concluded after his trip to Texas to meet with Mark and his agent, Scott Boras--the Red Sox are "not going to be a factor". Now it appears the Angels have informed the media that they are dropping out as well. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/HeadLines...B&hl=253388 So I guess the remaining teams left in the bidding are the O's and Nats  Who would have thought? I still have a feeling the Red Sox or Angels are going to end up with him in the end, though. Also, I think a mod should change the title of the thread to "Mark Teixeira Sweepstakes" or something of that nature as the title can be a bit misleading since it is outdated. [i didn't want to start a brand new thread]
December 22, 200817 yr It would be quite interesting if he ends up in Washington.... I doubt it. Sure he is a huge addition, but it will probably only mean they will lose something like 97 games instead of 102.
December 22, 200817 yr I wonder if the yankees will jump in? Well, someone close to the Yankees said they wouldn't go over $160 Million/8 yrs and Tex wants $184 Million/8yrs, but it is the Yankees we're talking about. I would never rule it out.

December 22, 200817 yr WHERE WOULD HE PLAY? Unless lowell is a FA then it would be stupid to sign Tex. But if lowell is a FA move Youk to 3rd and have Tex at 1st and you have yourself productivity and defesne at the corners along with Pedrioa and Lowrie up the middle

If they do sign Tex, though, there is no doubt they will trade Lowell. There was even a report in the Boston Globe that said the Red Sox "would likely spin Mike Lowell to another team" if they sign Mark Teixeira. You are correct, they would then move Youk to 3rd and Tex to 1st. What a sick corner infield that would be, huh?

Maybe one of the best infields. Lowrie is a rising star, maybe not an all-star, but a very solid player.

Thats insane that they offered him that and that he wants more. Once you get over the 100 million mark, does it even matter how much you get paid?

December 23, 200817 yr Author On ESPN radio they are saying the Bosox are pretty much the main players of this auction, with the Angels still in play. Right now they are trying to power play Boros and gain an upperhand.
