December 13, 200817 yr http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/base...tml?eref=si_mlb Interesting. Daniel Cabrera and Willy Taveras, two players who the Marlins had shown interest in trading for in the past, are now free agents. I wonder if the Fish will bite on any one of the two. Also, Ty Wiggington has also been non-tendered. A lot of teams are looking for a third baseman. I've always liked Wiggington. He is versatile and has a decent bat. :mis2
December 13, 200817 yr Looking at the SI link, Denny Bautista is now a FA, come on Marlins bring him home!!!!!!!!
December 13, 200817 yr daniel cabrera would be a nice pickup but i'm not sure we could afford him and we'd probably be outbid by other teams
December 13, 200817 yr I think we should go after Wigginton. He's coming off an excellent year, albeit in a hitters park. .285/.350/.526 (876 OPS) Pretty versatile too. He can play the infield corners, and probably the outfield corners if necessary. Low risk/High reward, kind of like Cantu last year.
December 13, 200817 yr I hope we get Wiggington, if only because I love his name. Also, he plays tons of positions well.
December 13, 200817 yr Wigginton would cost too much I'm sure and Daniel Cabrera is not very good. Neither is Willy T but I still expect him to be in a Marlin's uni come ST.
December 13, 200817 yr Wigginton would cost too much I'm sure and Daniel Cabrera is not very good. Neither is Willy T but I still expect him to be in a Marlin's uni come ST. You really expect us to bring someone in to battle it out with Maybin?
December 13, 200817 yr I don't expect him to battle for CF job, just 4th OF. I'm also known to be extremely pessimistic.
December 13, 200817 yr Willy T would be the perfect 4th OFer for us if he can put up somewhat reminiscent numbers of his 2007 season when he hit .320 with a .367 OBP in 400 + PAs. I see him being useful to us in 3 ways: 1) To start on days where we want to give a rest to one of our OFers 2) Bring him into the game late for defensive purposes (He's a good fielder) 3) Bring him in to pinch run (excellent speed) The only problem is he made almost $2 MM last year. But since he had a horrific year, he might have to settle for a huge decrease in pay. If we can get him for cheap, I say go for it.
December 13, 200817 yr Author So far, I think Wiggington interests me the most. I love the versatility. But I'm afraid what he would cost.
December 13, 200817 yr only player that I would be interested in is Willy Taveras, and that is only if Hermida is traded and we would have Taveras platoon with Scott Cousins
December 13, 200817 yr we would have Taveras platoon with Scott Cousins Brilliant. Scott Cousins, the 23 year old, who's played 27 games in AA with a .746 .OPS to play against righties. And Willy Tavares...a career .662 .OPS against lefties...to play against lefties.

December 13, 200817 yr If we didnt have Wes i'd so take Wiggy but Willy would be great so Mez could focus more in the if and he flies on the bases so he'd make a great PR and part of a defensive substiution which Freddi loves doing
December 15, 200817 yr Wigginton will make at least 2-3 million bucks in 2009. No way he signs with the Marlins. Look for the Giants, Indians, Twins and Reds to be after him.
December 15, 200817 yr I would like to see us take a chance on Taveras as a backup. I'll pass on the rest.
