May 10, 200916 yr Maybin not discouraged by slow start Marlins rookie may be heading to Triple-A for regular time DENVER -- The box scores don't lie. The Marlins haven't had much use for Cameron Maybin since the promotion of Chris Coghlan. Maybin, the Opening Day center fielder, was out of the lineup for the third straight day on Sunday as the Marlins went for a sweep of the Rockies. The new outfield alignment has Coghlan in left, Cody Ross shifted to center and Jeremy Hermida in right. Maybin is stuck on the bench, and he probably shouldn't get too comfortable there, either. The 22-year-old may be ticketed for Triple-A New Orleans. Florida, currently at 11 pitchers, will likely recall an extra arm to either start Tuesday's series opener at Milwaukee or to add depth to the bullpen. If the club is committed to playing Coghlan regularly, demoting Maybin should pay off in the long run. The 2005 first-round pick of Detroit has never been a bench player before. Playing every day in the Pacific Coast League could help boost his confidence. "I haven't really been swinging it like I would like to," said Maybin, who is hitting .202 with 31 strikeouts in 84 at-bats. "It could be one of those things where I clear my head and try to get things right." He's not alone in experiencing rookie struggles. Maybin has talked with Atlanta's Jordan Schafer (.232 average, league-leading 41 strikeouts) and, on Friday, Colorado's Dexter Fowler (.208 in May) about the transition. "For us, it's kind of trial and error right now," Maybin said. "We're feeling our way around." Maybin has said he doesn't feel any pressure to perform because of who the Marlins traded away to get him in a six-player deal in December 2007 -- franchise cornerstones Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. Instead, he noted another Tigers player, center fielder Curtis Granderson, who led the American League in strikeouts during his first full season in 2006. "Look at what he's doing now," Maybin said.
May 10, 200916 yr Hopefully he manages to figure things out and is able to make a contribution to the Marlins at some point later in the season.
May 10, 200916 yr Not surprised. He was somewhat rushed based on those 30+ at bats he had at the end of lat season.
May 10, 200916 yr Hopefully he can get it going in the minors and same as dom said i hope coghlan can do atleast better than maybin. A lot better would be nice
May 10, 200916 yr Thing is, I think Maybin is ready and that Bonifacio needs more time to work on his eye.
May 10, 200916 yr This is the right move. Getting Boner out of the lineup is also the right move. One of these will not happen. And before someone (bronco) comes in spouting a bunch of crap about "Boners showing a willingness to work hard and improve and blah blah blah", how do we know each and every one of these guys who is struggling isn't doing that? They are major leaguers? Why are some people willing to give Boni the benefit of the doubt in this regard? I'm not even picking on Bonifacio. I think Uggla and Cody need time off too.
May 10, 200916 yr NOT SHOCKED AT ALL! I think the guy isn't MLB material, and neither is Bonifacio... I had to change my sig because of the news... heh

May 11, 200916 yr If Bonifacio is either sent to AAA or benched for the foreseeable future, who bats leadoff? Coghlan? Hermida? We don't have many options.

Because the FO and Coaching staff are doing it as well, and they generally have a more complete picture of what each player can do or is doing. BTW, anyone know who is getting the call up to take his spot?
May 11, 200916 yr Because the FO and Coaching staff are doing it as well, and they generally have a more complete picture of what each player can do or is doing So we should never question their thinking.
May 11, 200916 yr If Bonifacio is either sent to AAA or benched for the foreseeable future, who bats leadoff? Coghlan? Hermida? We don't have many options. Whoever it would be really couldnt be any worse than Bonifacio because thats nearly impossible.

We don't have many options. i like what the red sox did in 2006 and they had Dustin Pedoria lead off, a high on base percentage guy, does not matter if he does not have speed. dustin is not very fast, but gets on base, i would like to see John baker lead off to be honest, cause he can work the count and set the tone early.

I guess he's not happy.
