If you told anyone that our record is 18-20 and we suck, they'd disagree with you. 18-20 is right in the middle of the pack. It's an average record right around .500 that could easily go 5-10 games over .500 with a nice run.

The point is we're struggling. We lost 2 out of our 5 starting pitchers to the DL plus our #1 has yet to get going. On top of that, our offense is struggling mightely and has been for a while now besides Hanley and Cantu, averaging about 3 runs a game during this slump. Now if you add all that together, what team wouldn't struggle ??? Frankly, 18-20 isn't bad at all. A lot of you guys will say that's because we started 11-1, but hey, that's the great thing about baseball. Every single freaking team is going to go through one or two major slumps sometime during the season, and we're going through our first major slump right now. Better now than later

We got Miller back, Nolasco looks like he's getting back on track. Our bullpen has been surprisingly solid all season and hopefully will continue to be. Cody Ross looks like he's coming out of it. Once we get a solid 5th starter, all the signs are pointing to us getting back on track. If we can escape this major slump of about 25-30 games and come out of it with a .500 record, then we'd be in a great position to make a solid run. The last month has been pretty rough, but hey, we're only 1/4th into to the season and we're hovering right around .500. We'll be fine.

I love the optimism and yes I agree, this team does not suck...however this team is no where near a contender. How long is it going to take to fire our hitting coach. What the hell is the front office waiting for? In terms of Fredi Gonzalez, I'm sorry, but this team has the talent to make any manager look great. Remember everyone was saying the same thing about Girardi and look at him now...he cant even win with the damn Yankees. I'm sorry to be a downer, but this team is need of a major makeover. I never trusted Uggla and his "swing" and he is barely struggling to hit 200...our bullpen looks great but it could have been even better if we would have kept Rhodes...I was saying it since the beginning, why not trade for Pierre?!?! The Dodgers simply do not have enough room for him and we have the tools to complete a trade, but the Marlins would rather have Bonifacio at leadoff. But it's too late now...since Manny left Pierre is reminding the world what he's capable of and the Dodgers will demand much much more IF they decide to trade him. This front office needs to take a look in the mirror and finally decide what they want to do with this team. And don't even mention the stadium, that's all fine and dandy, but I dont wanna put up with three years of this BS baseball!

I don't care what history has shown or how many stats you guys come up with.... we are going to end the season near the gutter.

You're right, the team doesn't suck. Some of the "fans" do though.

Do you even like the Marlins? It's as if you want them to lose.

Juan Pierre signed a 5 year deal in late 2006 for about 45 million dollars, so about 9 million per year. It was considered ludicrous at the time, and still is, despite Pierre performing well the past 3 games. So not only would the Dodgers have to cover a significant portion of that for the Marlins to consider it, the Marlins would also be responsible for Pierre for another 2 1/2, 3 years. Not going to happen, especially now that Pierre is filling in more than adequately for Manny. The Dodgers will want an arm and a leg and not cover a lot, if any, of the contract.

I can love the Marlins and still be realistic about the staff, right?

You act like we're the Washington Nationals. Any realistic fan would know our staff is capable of doing great things.

Yes and you even have a sig that critcizes the teams best prospect, because he strikes out a lot. Would you rather our top prospect not swing the bat and attempt to improve his approach at the plate? I never really got that. You don't have to like Maybin, but that just seems a little extreme for a Marlins fan to have in their sig. But I guess you're happy now that Maybin is in New Orleans where he is doing quite well thus far this season.

I am thrilled that he's gone so we can have someone in ther who won't go 0-4 every night.

We are not the Nationals but it's incredibly frustrating that only a small number of players are producing.

Yeah, well that doesn't mean you throw in the towel on May 18th.

Ya gotta believe!

The team sucks, it just shouldn't.

They don't suck, they are just tremendously underachieving

This team will not continue to suck...

Currently, this team DOES suck

This team has yet to find an identity. They're not an 11-1 team, but they're not a 7-19 team either.

We're far closer to the 7-19 team than the 11-1 team.

Depends on how you look at the performances of Uggla, Ross, and Ricky. If they overachieved last year, then yes, we are closer to the 7-19 team. If they are currently underachieving, then we aren't the 7-19 team (but not quite that much closer to 11-1).

Uggla was not overachieving last year, at least not based on his prior record. Hard to say with Nolasco and Ross, as Ross has only become a full-time starter this season, and Nolasco has missed a lot of time over the years with injuries.

Right now this is a below-.500 baseball team, particularly with this pitching staff of 2 quality starters and then some other guys who can't seem to last more than 3 innings.

My point was, if we have a bunch of players underperforming, then, in theory we are not the 7-19 team. Of course, theory is not real life, and the record doesn't care about past results.

The Marlins WILL BE 2009 NL East Champs.

The Marlins WILL BE 2009 NL East Champs.

I wish that was the case, but it's a very crowded division.

The Marlins WILL BE 2009 NL East Champs.

I have a few to add:

Jeremy Hermida will live up to his potential.

Andrew Miller will win 20 games.

Dan Uggla will hit .300.

This team doesnt suck..

Were just not very good...

I've said it since spring training that this team lacks fire power, not enough bats,Cantu and Ramirez cant do everything...

Our outfield is a mess...Hermieda is not working out,Maybin wasnt ready,Ross is a 4th OFer not a starter,i know people on here have man crushes on this guy but its the truth, and Coghlan hopefully works out cause i like this kid..

Our infield,Baker Good,Cantu good,Ramirez good,Uggla not getting it done,The scouts found the holes and are going right to them,Bonifacio should be in AAA...

Were lucky if we end up 500.

Nolasco needs to find 08 Nolasco

Johnson is the Man

Miller is still to young to tell

Volstad i think is still going to have a good year

Sanchez is up in the air with his injury

Koronko is just plain bad

As much as I don't like Ethan Skolnik and i didn't agree with many of the things in his column, I do agree with his basic premise - that the Marlins' problems can be tied to their low payroll causing them to be too thin on talent when a player gets injured.

Cantu for example should not be going out there every night even though I suspect you'd need dynamite to get him to put his glove and bat down, when he got hurt there should have been a suitable replacement ready in the wings so he could rest for 15 days on the DL and get healthy. I instead he's going to wind up playing hurt for two months.

Yes Helms could have taken over and played everyday, or Gload, but then who spells them? The wacky free agent low ball signing spectacle we saw this spring allowed teams to sign a number of (tier two) otherwise major leaguers to minor league deals and stockpile them for a rainy day. Unfortunately, for the most part that didn't happen with the Fish. I don't think the Dallas McPherson injury helped matters any after they committed $$$ to him, but a number of last minute signings we saw go elsewhere might have.

Usually people here incorrectly associate me with the "FO can do no wrong" camp, and this is one case where I think they were very short-sighted. Yes, I know Gaby is injured, there's lots of excuses (just continuing to use Cantu's situation as an example) but the bottom line is there is not enough major league ready/experienced talent in AAA especially considering how cheaply players were signing this spring.
