Hermida's Future

Featured Replies

i see hermida's future as a starter here till stantons ready then he gets traded

It's either him or Cody. And as of now Cody looks like the more valuable player.

Is creating threads about Hermida like the new super cool thing to do on this board? There's only like 4 of them on the 1st page...

A future #2 hitter, if you ask me.

Future?

ahh, I meant number 2 hitter. Lol, my bad. I don't know why I threw future in there.

Don't worry. I have common sense.

I wish our coaching staff and FO did :(

For all those calling Hermida the "typical" #2 hitter in the lineup, let me throw this out at you.

In 2008 while in the #2 spot in 357 AB's Hermida had a .247 BA, .318 OBP, .723 OPS with 3 times as many K's as walks.

This year in the #2 spot with 66 AB's Hermida has a better BA at .273, but his OBP is just slightly better at .324 OBP and a .748 OPS with this season 4 times as many K's as walks.

So no, Hermida is far from the prototypical #2 hitter, he doesn't belong there, period.

also why I hate when people on an internet forum feel they know more than the people in the FO 99% of the time.

His stats in the 2 spot are bad. But he is a prototypical #2 hitter. He gets on base alot, takes alot of pitches, and has decent speed. That is a prototypical #2 hitter. But John Baker should be batting there because he was doing just fine there till Fredi moved him.

Well, we come here to discuss. We're not acting like we know more than them. We just disagree with some of their decisions.

Because this season he's only batted 2nd against LHP and he has struggled hitting LHP throughout his career.

Its basically like putting Baker in the 2 spot vs LHP, he would be as successful hitting but he should have a decent OBP.

Hermida shouldn't hit 2nd as he would fit better in the 5th or 6th spot but Baker should.

actually, Hermida is only slightly worse against LHP than he is against RHP, although he has had 600 more AB's against RHP.

But this is really common sense if a batter is not great vs LHP and is a Left handed batter even with a .300 OBP do you hit in 2nd?

I would hit Bonifacio 2nd vs LHP and Baker 2nd vs RHP, but thats just meWhat would you do with Jeremy and who would you put in the 2 spot?

That is a very tough call.

In 2007, Hermida was above average when batting 3rd, but in twice as many AB's was just as good batting 6th.

2008 was tough to choose for Hermida considering his bad year all around. He had the majority of his AB's batting 2nd or 3rd, and was below average in both spots.

Although the small sample size, Hermida has been best when batting 5th this season, with a .900 OPS, but he has an .800 OPS in 66 AB's when batting 6th and most importantly a .415 OBP.

So based off of his career, Hermida has thrived in the 6 spot.

I agree his number in the 5 and 6 spot have been great, this is why i don't understand why he hits 2nd vs LHP. I know we really don't have a lead off man vs lefties but I'd prefer Bonifacio 2nd as he has hit them well this season. then you could try Coghlan in the one spot full time and see how that works out for him.

Really? I'm glad you're not managing this team either, then.

For what it's worth, Bonifacio is actually better against RHP...(take away the small sample size).

We do have a leadoff man against lefties. His name is Chris Coghlan. Just b/c you're a lefty doesn't mean you struggle against them. Coghlan was pretty solid in the minors against both.

Buts he's done ok in minimal at bats vs LHP in the Majors.

In 21 PA's he's hitting .190 with an OBP of .292(4 hits, 3Walks) OPSing .292.

Its a small sample size and hopefully as he see's more of them he improves but im willing to have him lead off full time.

You mention sample sizes in a later post, so I know you are aware of them. Yet you are going to use the 66 AB's from this year as justification that "he doesn't belong there, period"? Come on. Surely his career stats weigh a lot more. Sure, he stunk there in 2008. He stunk, period, that year, though. And he's consistently shown the ability to put up high OBP, with the exception of 2008. And that's exactly what you need from a #2 htiter. Not to mention, batting behind Bonerface doesn't give you the same situations in which to hit as any normal #2 hitter would ahve with a leadoff hitter who isn't terrible.

The team standings, the moves in the minor leagues and his latest improved performance at bat may have implications in Hermida's future.

The Marlins continue to lose ground in the standings.

We are presently 8 games out of first place. If the ship is not righted soon the Marlins will probably be trading Uggla and Hermida to a contender. Hermida's trade value may increase if he continues to hit well the next few weeks making his trade even more attractive to the Marlins.

Logan Morrison was switched from 1B to LF at AA Jacksonville. To me this means that Chris Coghlan will move to 2B and Morrison will play LF when Uggla and Hermida are gone.

Gaby Sanchez was switched from 1B to 3B at AAA New Orleans.....Bonefacio's days may be numbered. This also may mean that the team intends to keep Cantu and leave him at 1B since neither Morrison nor Sanchez are playing 1B now. Then again, the fact that both of them are able to play 1B and that Morrison bats left and Sanchez bats right makes Cantu expendable?

We'll have to wait and see.

Yeh thats a huge deficit in the division however we are only 4.5 out in the Wildcard. I wouldn't be too suprised if soon the team gives up on the division title but as long as we are right in the WC mix as we are just now, I don't think anyone is going elsewhere.

he's doing great. Woo Hoo, its great to see his batting average in the .270's with a .374 OBP, but lets see if he can sustain this kind of success. Hermida has never shown that kind of consistancy yet, to go all crazy over a few games is dumb, just like ya'll going crazy over him after that nationals series, I wouldn't doubt that he goes on another long cold streak this season. I see his average being around .255 to end the season, maybe a .340 OBP with a .740-.750 OPS, still not the greatest of production for a corner OFer.

you actually need to contribute in both the FIRST and second half of the season to be considered consistant.

uh

You realize he had only one bad month yes?

May: .794

June: .627

July: .976

August: 1.033

September: .897

I can't believe people act like you can put up a .870 OPS without being consistent.

Time to nail Cantu to the cross for having two bad months last year and a bad month this year.
