June 21, 200917 yr Maybin, VandenHurk Excelling at Triple A Keep an eye on Cameron Maybin and Rick VandenHurk, who are tearing it up at New Orleans. Maybin went 2 for 5 last night and has now gone 17 for his last 34, with eight walks and only six K's. VandenHurk, who started the season on the injury shelf, improved to 3-0 and now boasts an ERA of 1.82 for the Zephyrs. He has 30 strikeouts (and just five walks) in 29 2/3 innings for the Marlins' Triple A club. And Gaby Sanchez also continues to stroke it and looms in wait if the Marlins decide to demote third baeman Emilio Bonifacio Sanchez moved to third base more than a week ago thats really good news and i cant wait to move sanchez to third base and let boni work on his game in AAA. really pissed about calero though and hope he comes back quick.
June 21, 200917 yr I've always felt VandenHurk would be an excellent middle relief pitcher for our major league club. And Maybin needs to get called up soon, I mean putting him in CF, getting Hermida to LF where he belongs, and getting Coghlan to start at 3B is the best move for this team. I honestly can't see Sanchez stealing a starting spot from Coghlan.
June 21, 200917 yr I agree with VandenHurk in the bullpen. He always pitches good for 3 or 4 innings, then implodes. He can be really good out of the bullpen.

June 22, 200917 yr I thought Maybin was suspended for several games for "Aggressivwly arguing a called third strike" and bumping the ump?
June 22, 200917 yr From what I've read, this is what I see happening: 1. Coghlan stays at LF until we trade Uggla (later this season or over the winter), then he moves to 2B. The front office has said repeatedly that he is not going to play third. 2. Gaby Sanchez will play 3B soon, Bonifacio to the minors. I don't think Maybin will come back up until they are sure he is ready. When he succeeds in the mayors I think that will be the time we trade Uggla and/or Hermida. These trades will start the positions musical chairs going.

Because Erick has posted the only article I've read on the subject, wherein Fredi specifically states "If he's hitting, we'll find a place for him"... which rules out nothing.
June 22, 200917 yr So if maybin gets called up it pretty much kills gabys chance of coming up and being anything more than a bench guy. You have coghlan at 3rd, cantu at 1st, and our outfield is set.
June 22, 200917 yr wow I haven't been paying attention to Vandenhurk... whether he ultimately winds up in the pen or rotation, that's great to see.
June 22, 200917 yr i think its clear that they want sanchez at third. I think it's clear that they are preparing Sanchez to be an option at third. Doesn't mean other people can't play there. If anything, it's more of an indication that they will not move Cantu from first, so they are looking for a way to get Gaby's bat in the lineup.
June 22, 200917 yr wow I haven't been paying attention to Vandenhurk... whether he ultimately winds up in the pen or rotation, that's great to see. Remember Pinto, and guys like Zumaya, were starters all throughout the minors just to see the pen conversion in the bigs. I think they are giving RVH innings right now just to get his arm back to spec and for general experience as he simply just needs it as he hasn't pitched a lot of innings (even though it seems he's been around 'forever"). Also important to note he is out of options after this year, so he has to be on the 25 man come next year. He is going to get his shot then, so might as well give him as many innings as possible in the minors this year as it's sink or swim April 2010. I do not want another Cruz situation. I still think he's going to emerge as a good reliever somewhere.
