De Aza was optioned to AAA, Andy Gonzalez was brought up and Amezaga was moved to the 60-day DL

Interesting choice considering the conventional wisdom would have been for Gaby but obviously they need utility infield help first and foremost.

 

Makes you wonder if Ramirez could be out for longer than anticipated.

They should shut down Ramirez until after the allstar break.

Just read on Rotoworld.com (take it for what it is)that Alfredo may need microfracture surgery. If this is the case, I think his days in a Marlins Uniform may be over. He will command more money than this team will be willing to pay out to take a chance on him after a surgery like that.

That sucks for Amezaga. I enjoy watching him play because he always brings so much energy to the game. I obviously would want him to remain our utility player for a while yet, however his natural replacement is Bonifacio and the sooner he is employed in a utility position, the better.

I hope hanley isnt out for much longer and this isnt a good sign.

Rotoworld may be new but I think it's a rewrite of what transpired a week or so ago. It makes it sound as if he's there now and I suspect they're talking about his previous visit.

In other injury-related news, Marlins utility player Alfredo Amezaga is scheduled to meet with team doctor Lee Kaplan on Wednesday to decide what the next move should be regarding his knee injury.

 

Amezaga, who has been on the disabled list since mid-May with a bone bruise in his left knee, was examined last week in Colorado by Richard Steadman. Steadman is known for his work with NBA players.

Only time, and not surgery, will determine when Marlins utility player Alfredo Amezaga will return to the team.

 

A bone bruise in his left knee will not require surgery, only rest, Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said today after Amezaga saw a knee specialist in Vail, Colo., on Thursday. However, there is no timetable for his return or even for when he will return to baseball activities.

 

Amezaga got a second opinion from Dr. Richard Steadman, a knee specialist who is renown for his work with professional athletes as diverse as NBA standout Kobe Bryant and Olympic gold-medal skier Picabo Street.

 

"We knew going in, this would be a long-term thing," Gonzalez said. "Bone bruises are that kind of deal."

 

Amezaga has been out since May 17 and has been dealing with pain in the knee since before the season, when he was forced to leave Mexico's team during the World Baseball Classic with what was then thought to be a strained left knee.

Microfracture thing with Amezaga is a few days old like 03 said.

 

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the rest of the posts. This says to me Hanley is not going to be available for the immediate future and we simply need a 2nd SS on the roster in case EB gets hurt.

What also sucks is the report that he's taking GBs but not BP.

I thought I heard some one on the telecast last night say he took groundeds and took a few hacks. Any way this could be a huge blow.

It's too bad for De Aza, he wasn't ever gonna get starts but he was doing a fine job as a pinch hitter. It may be better off for him to get some at bats in the minors (yes I know he's never gonna be starting caliber, but it's still nice to have guys do well in a bench role).

Yeah it must be that they want a more versatile infielder. Gonzalez can play anywhere basically.

That's the way I see it. They finally had to buck up and count out Alfredo for the season so they needed a guy that can play multiple positions off the bench. I doubt it has much to do with Hanley. We may be missing his bat but Boni has done a fine job defensively at SS, showing off that range. So saying this is a sign of bad news about Hanley is saying Andy is going to replace his bat. I don't see that happening.

Also, Wes Helms looked really good in the field at 3B the other day. But if Hanley is gonna be missing time, guys need days off, and some one like Gonzalez would make sense. He brings a lot of versatility. When he was with Chicago in 2007, he played 3B, all 3 OF positions, 1B, 2B, and SS.

Is this front office so bone headed about giving him a chance? Then you know what if you dont want to bring him up TRADE HIM!

Send him somewhere that will give him a chance but stop holding him back! He's our boy from miami, and most of us who followed him from his Canes days want to see him do well but it looks like the front office has ZERO confidence in the man.

 

If you think he's not the answer then trade him, and watch him do it elsewhere like how Adrian Gonzalez did it somewhere else...

 

But right now the front office is hurting this young man's career by holding him back in AAA, and not giving him a shot in the majors especially when they have such a big hole at 3rd, and he's playing 3rd.

 

Either play him or trade him... If you don't want him get someone back who you feel is a fit.

But whatever you do replace bonerfraudio.
