July 22, 200916 yr If hes here, then yes, but i just think he's gone at the deadline. Somebody has to go in the outfield with maybin coming up and with hermida going to get a raise this winter and the fact that coghlan wont be going anywhere, he is the odd man out. I don't think we will see Maybin back up this season until September.... And that's if were out of it. Why? Because he had a full month out there, and he showed us how much he wasn't ready for the big leagues... Honestly he's at least 2 years away if that. I just don't see him ever being any good I mean he has little to no power, yes he's fast but he gets terrible jumps in the OF, and he has horrible base running skills. We got sold a bad of false goods because he's not a 5 tool player... Not at all, and not by a long shot. At best he will be a .275 12hr 70rbi with 20+ sb more or less every year... Not a total flop I guess but nothing major.... He's no Cabrera. You're really just wrong on everything here. Very good, borderline excellent, defensive outfielder. Exceptional base runner and stealer. He has incredibly high projectable power with his bat speed despite the fact he isn't popping 20-25 a year in the minors right now. A worst case scenario is he turns into Mike Cameron, but chances are he hits 20-30 points over .250 and becomes a low-mid .800 OPSing player, with superior base running and defense. Basically, a top 5-10ish CF in baseball. He's pretty safe with the walk rate, speed, and defense. The only question mark is, does he hit 60 XBH and become an above average CF, or does he hit 80 XBH and become a superstar. I mean, no one is Cabrera. But Maybin, Miller, Badenhop, Trahern, and Rabelo, plus saving... $150 million(?), was worth it. Let me introduce you to a good friend of mines he's called REALITY! Now say hello!! Seriously "Miller, Badenhop, Trahern, Rabelo, Maybin" for CABRERA, WILLIS is not a good trade for us no matter how you slice it! Sure Willis has done NOTHING with the Tigers but who didn't see that coming? But Cabrera has been the Superstar which everyone knew he would be become... Other then Badenhop "The Hopper" who's been simply decent in the pen, and (nothing special but decent) is about the best player we got in that trade the other guys have all flopped! Maybin was horrific this year, and sorry he is NOTHING like what you said he was! I don't know if you were watching the same player as I but he is FAR from being a 5 tool guy. He to me looks like a AAAA player, and not a major leaguer... Another Nigel Wilson or Darryl Whitmore. But anyway we will see on him but Rebelo is so bad he has never been back since his first month with the fish. is Trahern even with us? And with a new park, and "Hanley & Miguel" in the line up son it's worth paying that guy 150million. In a new park with him here, and that commitment to the players, and to the fans if the team had made it come 2012 this town would be electric! Cabrera is a future hall of famer all those guys the tigers sent us are failed prospects.... Do you know how old Maybin and Miller are? Wait, you're talking about Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller right?
July 22, 200916 yr what happened to skipworth he was supposed to be so good He's 18. So was Dominguez when he tore it up in Greensboro. I'm not calling Skipworth a bust at 18, but there's literally nothing positive about what he's done in his pro career. All of the numbers are awful. To struggle that much in a hitter's environment is troubling. He's yet to even put up a .700 OPS over a month in his pro career. Hasn't even come close. I don't even want to think about the K's he's ammasing.
July 22, 200916 yr Went to the GCL game yesterday, they creamed the Astros 15-0, of course the Astros made 5 errors. I know the box said 6 but Diaz hit one up that middle that I didn't see anyone touch and even after the inning the Marlins manager was yelling at the scorekeeper about it. Talked with some of the players, some weren't either on the roster or their number didn't match the roster I printed. Cooper is nursing a hamstring right now thats why the #3 pick hasn't played since July 8th. Also Tom Hickman a former number 2 pick is with the team on the reserve list, he's working himself back into playing shape and hopefully will go to Greensboro to finish the year. A person with the team said he was supposed to get sent down from Jupiter earlier this year and then had family problems, but he's back and ready to play.

Cabrera is a future hall of famer all those guys the tigers sent us are failed prospects.... Maybin is absolutely destroying AAA at 22 years old, and significantly improving from his 21 year old year in AA. You really have no idea what you are talking about. Miller is clearly the first pitcher to struggle under the age of 25. Trahern is hurt. Badenhop looks like a good 4th or 5th right hander out of the pen. This is FAR from declaring them failed prospects. I realize you're an ignorant-to-baseball Marlins fan and expect every young player to develop like Beckett, Hanley, Cabrera, and Johnson, but that is not how it works. It's not a bad haul. You also simply don't understand the money aspect as the Marlins could not afford Cabrera in the 2008-2011 seasons before the new stadium. They would have had to trade Uggla, Hermida, Ross, Cantu, and Amezaga this year to afford him. Call me crazy, but we're a better team with those 5 guys and a haul of prospects, than paying just Miguel Cabrera and having him pissed off everyone else on the team is "John Raynor" because we can't afford anyone else. You can be upset about things, but please formulate better arguments in the future. You really have no idea what you are talking about right now. I'm upset the financial aspects of the game forced us to move Cabrera too, but it's a business. And hopefully starting in 2012, we don't have to make a choice like that again.
July 22, 200916 yr Author Again, MarlinsLou hits the nail on the head. It's kind of sad that people can't understand these BASIC concepts of baseball, let alone some of the nuances that are difficult to learn about the sport and the business. FishFan77, I'm sorry that the Marlins aren't the Yankees. If you all you care about is keeping the big names and having no interest in potential stars in the minors, then you're rooting for the wrong team.
July 22, 200916 yr Morrison walked three more times today, is this guy even human? What an eye this kid has! It's just a matter of time he starts tearing the ball. Now 38BB 24SO on the season.

The double header at Jacksonville was two of the most exciting game I have seen in a while. Suns came from behind and won them both in the last inning. CLUTCH
July 23, 200916 yr Morrison is basically averaging a walk a game in AA (37 walks in 38 games) Walking 25% of the time against RHP and has a .200 ISO and his BABIP is going to come around god I love this kid
July 23, 200916 yr god a batting order of Maybin Coghlan or CC Hanley Logan Stanton I mean seriously this is going to be so f***ing fun to watch. '10 is going to be a growing period for '11, but god, '11 is going to be fun. We are going to smash faces and piss on their dead bodies in '11. People will cry and complain when we trade hermida and uggla and cantu and cody. f*** them. The '06 core was a good try but it wasn't enough. The core we're building, jesus.
July 23, 200916 yr I'm rooting for this lineup by 2011 CF- Maybin 2B- Coghlan SS- Ramirez LF- Stanton 1B- Morrison C- Baker 3B- ??? (hopefully Dominguez, but doubtful, maybe Gaby Sanchez, but that would probably be worst case scenario, I'm expecting a free agent signing to take over by then). RF- ??? (doubtful we keep Cody, and I expect another free agent signing here, but could easily be a Scott Cousins/John Raynor taking over here). Our pitching staff could be questionable at that time, although we have Volstad and West signed for a while, JJ may be gone by then, I don't know about Nolasco and his arbitration situation, Tucker, Thompson, Hand could fixture as possiblities into the rotation by then, but I'm not all that pumped about how our rotation is looking by then.

July 23, 200916 yr Lou please don't waste your time man.... and Dim I have every confidence they'll lock up JJ. I think the rotation will be fine in '11, still enough options there.

This is what I'd have penciled in CF Maybin R 2B Coghlan L SS Hanley R 1B/LF Morrison L RF Stanton R 1B/LF Mashing Free Agent X (since we can afford one in 2012) C Baker (can switch with Dominguez if 1B/LF is a lefty) L 3B Dominguez R B - Cousins, Raynor, G. Sanchez, Bonifacio, Hayes SP - Johnson, Volstad, Miller, West, Sanabia/whoever RP - Tucker, Ceda, Vanden Hurk, Leroux, Wood/Cishek/whoever, Meyer, Thompson Obviously this is all home grown at the moment and things will change, but that's how I'd envision it. A lot of talent is going to come back from Uggla, Cantu, Hermida, Ross, Amezaga, Lindstrom, Nunez, Anibal, and Pinto to supplant this. And who knows how fast Skipworth, Smolinski, Hand, Brewer, Kaminska, Berglund, etc develop.
July 23, 200916 yr maybe throw in a Dominguez by '11. okay reaching... The power he's displaying as a 19 year old in Jupiter is crazy though. I really wouldn't rule out '11 for Dominugez, he should be in Jax next season. Just depends how his plate discipline develops. I definitely think '12 is more fair though.
July 23, 200916 yr and Dim I have every confidence they'll lock up JJ. I think the rotation will be fine in '11, still enough options there. I'm not as confident. His agent is playing hardball, and you know how the Marlins balk at high demands. I still think a 4 year deal ASAP would be great to lock JJ down for 2 of his arbitration eligible years. As for MarlinsLou's prediction, I could see that, although puttting Dominguez in the starting lineup is a bit optimistic at this point. I totally forgot about Miller, but we still need to see if he can ever fix his control issues and his mechanics. I agree that Tucker is probably our closer by then, he has said in interviews that he feels comfortable in the closer spot. I'm surprised you left Badenhop off the 2011 roster, considering he and VandenHurk are perfect fits as long relief options who if needed can come in and spot start. That bullpen doesn't look all that strong, but as stated the net we will get in the trades for our players will probably fill those holes, added the Marlins always seem to find veteran guys and turn them into good relievers again. I'm hoping that we can find a better backup than Hayes by then, hopefully a good veteran guy (aka what Pudge would've done this year), I wouldn't feel comfortable at all if Baker goes down to see Hayes getting starts.
July 23, 200916 yr I've envisioned this depth chart/lineup: Depth Chart RF- Michael Stanton CF- Cameron Maybin LF- Scott Cousins 3B- Matt Dominguez SS- Hanley Ramirez 2B- Chris Coghlan 1B- Logan Morrisson C- John Baker Lineup 1. Cameron Maybin 2. Chris Coghlan 3. Hanley Ramirez 4. Logan Morrison 5. Michael Stanton 6. John Baker 7. Matt Dominguez 8. Scott Cousins Starting Pitchers 1. JJ 2. Nolasco 3. Miller 4. Volstad 5. West Bullpen: Hard to predict, but I know Tucker, Ceda, Badenhop, Vaden Hurk and Thompson should be in their.
July 23, 200916 yr Cousins should be ahead of Pete for if nothing else his defense. TBH, I don't know much about either, so I put who is having the better year this year. I remember rumors about Logan in LF, and Gaby at 1st. What are the chances of that happening.
July 24, 200916 yr Stanton already has a 2-run shot tonight, his 8th at AA (and 20th overall for the season). The game is currently in the 5th and he's 2-3, raising his average over .250.
July 24, 200916 yr Cousins should be ahead of Pete for if nothing else his defense. TBH, I don't know much about either, so I put who is having the better year this year. I remember rumors about Logan in LF, and Gaby at 1st. What are the chances of that happening. He might have the better OPS but he isn't really having the better year. Pete only has a .1 iso his power has basically disappeared. Right now he's displaying the power of a slap hitter. if his game continues down this path, he is not going to be a good major leaguer. Right now he's doing fine in AA because he's hitting for average and walking. But those walks will go away because pitchers will pound the strike zone. Meaning all he'll do is give an empty and not impressive average. Hopefully he'll still develop in into the 20 plus HR guy though. And while Cousins' season is disapointing because we were all hopeful that he'd have a breakout season, he's also basically having the season you'd expect. His improvement in plate discipline is also a big plus, striking out just 21.6% of the time compared to 27.8% last season. But, even though he's still displaying his above average power, the HRs have taken a back seat and he'd only be on pace for 15 over 150 games after being on pace for 20 last year. Instead, you're looking at 42 doubles and 7 triples. Those need to turn into HRs. And, being 24, he doesn't have too much time left to grow some power. By this point he's looking like a BC clone with more walks, less power, and probably worse defense. But both high power, poor discipline, great fielding OFers.

July 24, 200916 yr Wow, good to see Stanton with a good night tonight. If he keeps it up, things could get pretty exciting. The AA transition is a tough one for a hitter his age and if he really starts to get things going there, I'm gonna feel very good about his chances at becoming an excellent major league player.
July 24, 200916 yr Good night by Skipworth, too. He really needs to pick it up, so any good game from his so far should be a blessing.
