Answer to the earlier Matt Holliday talk...

Featured Replies

Marlins president of baseball operations Admin Beinfest told The Miami Herald on Tuesday that there is now "an openness" to trade for another bat.

One problem, though, is the fact that the Marlins -- strapped with the lowest payroll in baseball -- don't have many realistic options, The Herald wrote. The publication called the potential acquisition of Athletics outfielder Matt Holliday, who's making $13.5 million this season, too pricey.

If it decides before the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline that the playoffs are an unrealistic goal, Florida could then dump try to dump salary. Some options would be Dan Uggla (making $5.35 million this season), Jorge Cantu ($3.5 million), Jeremy Hermida ($2.25 million) and Cody Ross ($2.225 million). But, at this point, the Marlins -- coming off a three-game sweep of the Padres -- aren't there yet, according to The Herald.

OMG, way to post something that absolutely everybody who follows the Marlins already knew! And there can't be an answer to the Matt Holliday talk, considering there never was any talk!

stupid threads annoy me. And I had to read it...what is "it"? The post just mentions him casually and says "oh, too pricey", that isn't talk, its random trade discussion with no source. AKA, it's a waste of a thread, and there is even below a 0% chance we get Holliday.

why do you assume I am yelling on the internet when I am simply stating an opinion? It's just that I don't remember a SINGLE source ever even considering Holliday as even triggering any sort of interest from the Marlins seriously.

calm down dim, the guy was posting a new update that has not previously been posted. the marlins being open to trade for a bat is news because before now they've only been rumored to be in talks for relief help.

How did I know without an attribution that if this was in the Herald it had to come from Barry Jackson. And it did.

'marlins president of baseball operations' isn't considered an attribution?

Oh, I get it now.

Well, my new response is 'so?'

all the piece says is "herald" not who wrote it, which was what I was referring to and i thought clearly since i mentioned barry jackson by name, but obviously not clear enough for you.

Did you not read the part where I said 'oh, I get it now. My new response is 'so'?'

like, what's your point? Did you have to make a post just to say that you can tell when a given story is written by a particular author? That's a cool, though ultimately useless talent, i suppose. Or is it part of your larger jihad against the Herald? Just seemed like a pretty random post.

I have no jihad against the Herald. They are imploding all by themselves without my help. If anything I simply mourn the loss of any newspaper even one as poorly run as this. The Herald (and a number of other newspapers in the chain) exist today only to protect bank lending covenants and not because of any journalistic mission. As for Barry Jackson, admittedly I find his work when it comes to baseball to be nothing more than a vehicle for his own self-promotion but I suppose it's his way of looking for a new gig. He actually writes a decent media column.

FWIW, Ken Rosenthal says that the Marlins asked about Holliday (via MLBTR):

  • The Marlins expressed interest in Holliday at one point, but wanted the A's to pick up most of the money owed to him this year. The Reds also inquired.

Impossible. It was confirmed by dim there was BELOW 0% chance he would come to the marlins and hes never wrong.

Why would the Marlins inquire on Holliday? He has Josh Willingham or Cory Ross numbers for the season. I'd just bring back the Hammer. Maybe the Nationals would take Bonafacio for him.

According to MLB trade rumors, we inquired about Holliday but we wanted the A's to pick up most of the salary. No surprise about the salary.

Was there ever any doubt about the outcome of that approach...sheeesz
