December 22, 200916 yr The Yankees have acquired Javier Vazquez from the Atlanta Braves for Melky Cabrera and Mike Dunn, sources told ESPN The Magazine senior writer Buster Olney. In addition, the Braves are sending right-hander Boone Logan to the Yankees, sources said. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4764085 Pretty good deal for the Yankees. Good for us as well now that we don't have to face Vazquez anymore.
December 22, 200916 yr Author Damn, I thought the marlins had a good chance of acquiring him for Uggla. I don't want Uggla going to a division rival.

December 22, 200916 yr Wow, this seems like an absolutely horrible deal for the Braves. I just don't get this. Must be salary dump. Lowe next??

December 22, 200916 yr One word to describe this trade for the Braves: Pathetic. The Marlin fan in me is joyous, but the Yankee hater in me is furious.

I agree I just don't get it Melky is about as average of a player as can be while Vasquez is a solid dependable starter are the Yankees using Jedi mind control?

December 22, 200916 yr Damn, I thought the marlins had a good chance of acquiring him for Uggla. The Braves aren't that stupid. And this deal isn't as bad for the Braves as everyone is making it out to be. It was mainly a salary dump where they got rid of $14 million, plus they're receiving 500k from the Yankees. Cabrera is a decent outfielder, and Dunn is a very solid prospect.
December 22, 200916 yr Pretty awful deal however... Jason Stark of ESPN is reporting: Now in Rumor Central: Potential next moves for Braves: Damon? Uggla? Nady? Spinning Melky for a bat?
December 22, 200916 yr It hurts the Braves now, because I believe the rotation they had going into this year with Javier gave them a chance at winning the division- though I had them winning the WC. With that being said Melky doesn't scare me one bit and this is a deal that I think helps the Marlins like some have said. Only sad part is the prospect that the Braves got was Ardoys Vizcaino who is a pretty damn good prospect- but that's in about 4 years.
December 22, 200916 yr It sounds like the Braves knew nobody was interested in Derek Lowe, and they had to get rid of SOMEONE, so they went with the in-demand Vazquez. However, the people they got in return weren't worth it, and I can't see how the Braves win this deal unless Vazquez falls off of a cliff numbers-wise in '10.

December 22, 200916 yr From ESPN's Jayson Stark: We told you that the Yankees have acquired Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan from the Braves for Melky Cabrera, Mike Dunn and prospect Arodys Vizcaino. ESPN.com's Jayson Stark is hearing that Jason Bay is too pricey for the Braves and emailed this analysis: "Let's characterize the Braves' next move this way: The Vazquez deal frees up about $9 million for the Braves to spend on upgrading their offense -- Vazquez's $11.5-million salary and the half-million in cash they'll get from the Yankees, minus the $3 million or so Cabrera will make via arbitration. They'll now look to use that surplus on an outfield bat, a first baseman or possibly both. "Johnny Damon is one possibility, particularly because his home in Orlando is within minutes of the Braves' spring-training complex. Another option is free agent Xavier Nady, who could play first or the outfield and would come at a relatively low base because he is recovering from his second Tommy John surgery. "Or the Braves could look to deal an outfielder -- either Cabrera or possibly Jordan Schafer -- for a bat. They've been linked in trade rumors to Florida's Dan Uggla, who could potentially slide to first base."

I feel Uggz doesn't have the stature for 1st... i doubt we'd trade uggla to the braves but if we did there is no way he'd be playing 1st. either they'd move prado to 1st and uggla to 2nd or they'd move chipper to 1st to decrease the chance of injury and prado to 3rd opening a spot for uggla at 2nd. anyway i don't see any indications we'd trade uggla to them. it seems that these writers are linking uggla to every team in the league without any sources.
December 23, 200916 yr Melky Cabrera finally gets dealt. He has been involved in every Yankees trade rumor for like 5 years now. Never have got the fascination with him though.

That would have been a disastrous trade for them. Vazquez might be one of the ten best starting pitchers in the MLB, while Uggla might not even be a top ten second baseman.
