The Marlins and Ross failed to come to an agreement before the team-imposed deadline. They will have a hearing decide his salary next month.

Cody asked for $4,450,000

Marlins offered $4,200,000

Well great... here is my answer on the Cantu thread.

Anyone know any of the specifics regarding why Cody and the Fish haven't been able to reach an agreement?

that be sad if cody ross leave he like by alot marlins fans

The offers have been edited into my post above.

I completely agree.

It has nothing to do with him leaving, though. They just can't agree on a contract for 2010, but the Marlins retain his rights regardless.

I find it funny how accurate Lou is. I mean, it's amazing. How do you do it?

Next year you should make an arbitration prediction for every MLB player and forward it to the Marlins with a resume attached. I bet they hire you.

Further proof that Admin Beinfest/Michael Hill reads this message board.

First of all I think the Marlins deserve a lot of credit for spending some considerable cash to give the team a chance to build on last year. Does anyone know what's going on with Ricky Nolasco? I haven't heard anything. I haven't heard he has been signed, but I haven't heard he is going to arbitration. I haven't heard anything.

Ricky signed his one year deal a few months ago. Somewhere in the ballpark of $4 million if I remember correctly.

$3.8 million. I think that can be a steal if he keeps up his second half form. Especially his last game of the year vs the Braves. That was amazing!

I know they have a strict business model to follow, but I would of thought that considering more or less everyone else is now signed up before arby that the Marlins could pay out an extra $250k to one of the more explosive bats on the team.

Thank you for the answer. I must have just had a brain fart because I'm sure I heard this but I just forgot.

Does anyone know where the marlins stand with players still headed to arbitration? Of course Cody is the big name but is there anyone else left? And how is the bullpen looking right now?

Everyone is signed except Cody. Pretty impressive they only couldn't agree with 1 player.

The bullpen right now is your guess as good as anyones, but here is going to be the core competition:

RHP - Nunez, Sanches, Badenhop, Vanden Hurk, Leroux, Wood, Penn

LHP - Meyer, Pinto, H. Jones, Tankeresely

Not included, the loser of the 3-4-5 SP slots from Volstad, A. Miller, West, and Anibal. And Tucker/Ceda, who are both the most projectable arms we have here, but are coming off injury and likely to start in AAA.

I really don't mind a BP consisting of: Nunez, Sanches, Badenhop, RVH, Meyer, Pinto, and 1 of the other aforementioned arms. It should be fine. We still don't have an ace reliever, but it's alright. And if Tucker/Ceda develop(s) this year, we just bump off the 1 or 2 weakest arms. I don't think any of the 6 RPs I mentioned should be below-average, or at least not very far below.

And I bet whoever loses the SP competition, and really RVH too because they consider him in the SP mix, throws BULLETS in the bullpen.

Pen is going to be fine. It's all the SP and if they come together as a unit.

I have a feeling that Vanden Hurk will end up starting more games than Miller will.

I think I should invoice the front office

And yet your original prediction for the payroll was $36.8 mil. Something dosen't mesh.

RVH is a pretty good young pitcher. Don't be surprised if he becomes a consistent #3 or #4 guy in a couple more years. He has a nice 95 MPH fastball and he has been working on a good slider. I wish he didn't get rid of the "Holland Hammer". That was one of the most fun curveballs to watch thrown.

There's no discrepancy. He was predicting the amount of money these players would get in arbitration/pre-arbitration negotiations. These numbers would have been the same irrespective of the Marlins keeping these players (which would obviously impact payroll). He wasn't predicting whether or not the Marlins would keep Dan Uggla (et. al.) on the roster; he was merely predicting how much Dan Uggla's (et. al.) 2010 contract would be valued at.

Even his thread is called "Salary Estimates" and not "Payroll Predictions". HTH

First of all, it was arbitration estimates not what they were going to do. Second, I strongly maintained that $40 million was going to be the magic number the second half of the season and start of the offseason, which was basically correct as they routinely said payroll will be under $40 million. But what happened? MLBPA/MLB slapped them on the wrist for revenue sharing which really couldn't be anticipated, and then they couldn't trade Uggla (yet). All of a sudden they're at $46. Cool? I'm a failure.

Is anyone else thoroughly amused by BroncoBob repeatedly fellating himself over the fact that he [allegedly] predicted that payroll would be between $45-$50 million? He must have reminded us more than a half a dozen times.

What I find amusing about this is that it really wasn't a bold predication a couple of months ago and one did not need to go out onto a limb to make it. Personally I might not have explicity stated it here (because I never thought to) but I fully expected payroll to be on the higher side of the mid-40s. Frankly, I think mostly everyone else here was of the same mindset and no one really denied such a payroll increase.

So dedicated is Bob to his own self-gratification is that he needs to take shots at MarlinsLou, despite the fact that Lou predicted the arbitration value for every player on the nose. Most of us are impressed by this skill, not the ability to make a claim over something that was purely self-evident.

Lou is too modest to say this, but I'm sure he's laughing right now.

Bob, everyone needs some spring in their step but you have a habit of pushing the line here. You also predicted that Gaby Sanchez wouldn't be with this organization by Opening Day. That would be a real prediction.

Here's my salary estimate from November:

I was thinking about $45M. So I assume it's possible, but as we've all expected, that places a lot of pressure on the staff.

If this were Price Is Right I might beat you.

Where's my speed boat?
