Dan Meyer was placed on the 15-day DL with a strained left calf muscle and Brian Sanches was activated to take his place.

Im sure the "calf injury" hurts a bit more when he stares at the 16.20 ERA he has...

Hope Sanches can bring a positive spark to the pen.

I sense the traditional trick here of exaggerating a slight tweak

Yeah, he's hurt. Sure.

A few weeks back on here... I made a comment about these phantom bullpen injuries that happen to every team, every year... and I got a response or two making me look silly for even implying that they might be "exaggerated truths". I'm not sayin anything about whoever responded to me, I'm jsut saying that I feel this stuff is way too obvious, and in this thread, others have insinuated the same. A pretty convienient injury for the guy with the inflated ERA, on the day that one of our primary setup men is ready to be activated. Oh well

The funny thing is that Meyer is out of options. I feel a little conspiracy theory coming on.... :whistle

I bet if you give me one chance, I could guess who it was that said that. :mischief

Anyway, I'm with you on this. Do the math. Meyer is out of options and is sucking almost as bad as Veras was. Leroux is throwing the ball well and deserves to stay up.

I think in most cases the injury isn't necessarily "invented" but rather exagerrated. MLBers play through all sorts of injuries. Meyer might have something nagging, but I would certainly bet that if he were pitching like he was last season he wouldn't be on the DL.

I would believe Meyer's injury more if it was whiplash. I kind of had a feeling that last season was Fool's Gold with him.

Yeah Meyer has a bad case of sucking. Hopefully Sanches pitches like he did last year.

I think his numbers last year were legit, as his peripherals looked good. But he just can't find the strike zone this year and is getting behind every batter, leading to him walking a bunch of guys and getting hammered.

i surprised he wasn't diagnosed with with an anxiety disorder.

i just hope that sanches wasn't a one year wonder. because we need someone to stabilize the pen

He said he hurt it in that Cincy series. Said he couldn't get over top of his breaking stuff and it led to bad habits (as per the Marlins web site). His line does show this. Now whether he said that to match his line, or if it's actually true, we have no idea. Of course the conspiracy theorists will always see it their way, and they have some good points. I say it could go either way. The bottom line is the pen has sucked and it needs help. Let's see if this helps out and then see how he does when he gets healthy, or "healthy", whatever the case may be.

Good post, and I even got a laugh out of it at the end :thumbup

he'll get it worked out. Meyer was awfully good last season, I don't think it was a fluke.

Just remember that Sanches compiled his nice ERA in non-pressure situations in the middle innings. Only in a deep bind would Fredi actually put him in during the late innings and for good reason, because he just doesn't have stuff that is very impressive. He could probably put together a nice run in middle relief again, but people can't expect him to do much more because even in his "wonder" year of last year he wasn't a big player in a pen that had a very unstable back end.
