Alright, since runners can bowl over the catcher while he's covering home plate, whether or not he has the ball, is the runner allowed to run over a pitcher covering home on a wild pitch since he too would be blocking the plate?

 

 

Like I said, probably a stupid question, but just curious as to what the rules state.

That would probably be covered in the unwritten rules of baseabll, but since thy're not written I can't find the answer to this :thumbup

My best guess is no, the reason it seems to be okey to truck the catcher is because he has all of the equipment on, where a pitcher doesn't. Most times when you see the pitcher cover its a slide, even a hard slide is okay.

That said if I'm on third as the winning run in the World Series that pitcher is going down

Yeah they can but it's one of those courtesy things where you slide or just run through home plate.

You really don't want to be a dick a injure the other teams pitcher when it can be easily avoided.

I have to believe the answer is definitely yes... but it would probably considered a d*ck move to do it to an unprotected pitcher. But too bad, a runs a run, especially a winning run.

I don't think pitchers block the plate like a catcher would simply because they don't want to get injured.

Of course a runner can bowl over the pitcher,I don't think many pitchers are stupid enough to block the plate unless you have someone like Zambrano...The pitchers generally just tag the runner like a bullfighter and get the hell out the way

You can run over anyone in the basepath. But yeah, to do it to a pitcher would seem like a dick move.

I don't know too many pitchers willing to try and block the plate.
