July 15, 201016 yr Marlins released RHP Armando Benitez. Benitez, 39, inked a minor league contract with the Fish in late June and was hoping to revitalize his career in their farm system. Unfortunately he allowed six hits and five walks over 6 2/3 innings at Triple-A New Orleans and was sent packing on Thursday. He may get a call from another club. Rotoworld

Rotoworld He made eight appearances, of those six hits, three were in one, two were in another, so i doubt that hit count was the reason. Perhaps more telling was the walks he gave up and his velocity which was way down. He was getting by on experience first and his location was a distant second and my guess is that wasn't going to translate at the major league level. I give him credit for trying.
July 15, 201016 yr From what I heard despite the results he just didn't look like his pitches had life on them. It would have been awesome if he could have made it back with us for a third go round, but that's the way it goes.
July 15, 201016 yr On the heels of this (Armando being gone) they still need to fill a roster spot at NOLA. Benitez was pitching almost back to back nights.
July 15, 201016 yr One-sided obssesion about former closers, It's totally insane. Not even gambling. Poor Benitez.
July 16, 201016 yr I'm sorry to hear this because I really liked Bernitez. It was fun to watch him pitch, and we've been able to bring others so it was worth a chance. Interesting that the release makes it sound like he had a really bad outing instead of saying it happened over X outings. Why are they doing that?
July 16, 201016 yr Why didnt they just keep him in NO? Contractual obligations? Looks like the Jhan Marinez's promotion is the answer. He came to the big leagues, pushing Dan Meyer to AAA. That required a AAA spot cleared, so they released Benitez. I wonder if they offered him a spot in AA? He probably would have refused it anyway.

July 16, 201016 yr I doubt the Meyer move had anything to do with Benitez being released. The Marlins were not impressed enough with Benitez to have him take a bullpen spot away from a promising young pitcher. Better to just promote someone (Martinez) who projects to have a future with the franchise. Marlins thinking about 2012 without giving up on 2010

Obviously there were no extra AAA spots, like I said, so when Meyer was sent down, they chose the other guys over Benitez, like you said. It had everything to do with it.
