Alex Sanabia will be available out of the pen in the series in San Diego. No word on if we're going to have a new 5th starter right away or just go with 4 because of Monday's off-day.

id have to say 92-94 is what you see and tops out at 95 on occasion so he can have success with that.

 

but i remember west having a mid to high 90's fastball before his shoulder surgery but im not sure about that.

He actually got rocked by the Yankees, he went 4 IP, 10 Hits, 5 ER but with 7 K's in a 5 to 1 loss and the only loss to the Yankees in the series.

He did however have very good outings against the Mets, Giants, Orioles, Astros and Mets (again) last season.

He was 8-6 with a 4.79 ERA which is solid, he didn't walk to many batters with only 44 in 103 IP but he did give up quite a few longballs (11) and was very hittable with 115 hits allowed, .280 BAA.

 

He should be better his next stint up and could be a solid 3 or 4 starter in the rotation in the next year or two.

I'd love to see West called up. I just don't want to rush him. Vandy would be a good callup too.

I think West could be huge for this rotation but we REALLY need to have our next starter who comes up go deep into games. We cant continue to baby guys who come up and act like 6 innings is enough. to me no start is all that great unless they go at least 7 innings.

From a 1-3 spot in the rotation pitcher, 7 IP is expected almost every night which is what we mainly get from J.J. and Ricky, but we don't have a consistent 3rd pitcher. Volstad could be a solid 4 as he can go 6 or 7 when on and finally we go to the 5th spot who's mainly supposed to do their part by going at least 5 IP and keeping the game close or put there team in a situation in which they can win the game.

 

Sanabia was 100 % a rush and mistake as we had him on an 80 pitch limit while we were in the midst of a playoff run and with an average bullpen who ended up dieing out with tons of innings they were forced to throw.

Right Now RVH has been straight dealing in NOLA so it seems he'd be the best option while we let West get things together and have him go deeper in starts. We need West to be at his best by next season because he should be fighting for a spot in the rotation and it would be great to have a solid Left Handed Starter when we go up against Atlanta and Philadelphia.

Those are horrible numbers, but looking at the splits (excluding the walks because I feel like being nice)...he's been good against left-handed hitters. .200 opponents average against lefties, with 18 K's in 15 innings.

Because he's quite close to the number of innings they wanted him to throw this year, most likely. If he gets another 12 starts in the minors, that'd probably destroy his arm.
